Pearl Cohn Doesn’t Rebuild, They Just Reload
In this article:
It’s a new year, a new season and it’s the same ole Pearl Cohn football team that you know as they have started the 2021 campaign at 2-0 and look just as talented as ever.
The 2021 Firebirds team was expected to still win some games this season but was replacing several key players from last year’s playoff team and having to break in a lot of new faces, however that hasn’t seemed to slow down this Nashville Metro City power.
Through the first two games of their season, Pearl Cohn has defeated two good programs in Cane Ridge and last Friday, MBA and both wins took place on the road.
Both wins occurred by different ways as the Firebirds handled Cane Ridge with ease while they fought tough and battled till the end to beat a very talented Big Red team, led by a Power Five quarterback.
It has been an impressive start so far for Pearl Cohn but we have a long season to go, so these Firebirds must take a breath and battle one game at a time.
Key factors on the Firebirds side towards maintaining a mental edge is their coaching staff, led by Coach Tony Brunetti and key seniors in 5-star receiver Barion Brown Barion Brown 6'1" | 165 lbs | WR Pearl-Cohn | 2022 State TN and versatile defensive back Kavon Coffee Kavon Coffee 5'9" | 165 lbs | DB Pearl Cohn | 2022 State TN .
Brown is an elite level athlete that was a major factor behind the Firebirds victory over MBA. His dynamic, game breaking abilities will be leaned on all year as Brown is a go to, must see prospect that can change the game in a heartbeat.
Coffee and his fellow defensive teammates are playing sound, hard nosed football right now while breaking in several newcomers. The Firebird defense may have some lapses this season but there is enough talent on that side of the ball to keep the offense within any game this season.
The star so far this year through two games has been sophomore running back Malachi Cromwell Malachi Cromwell 5'8" | 180 lbs | RB Pearl Cohn | 2024 TN . The small but fast and elusive back broke on the scene in Week One when the Firebirds ball carrier ran for 231 yards and three touchdowns.
Adding Cromwell to the fold along with Brown and an up and coming quarterback in sophomore Keshawn Tarleton Keshawn Tarleton 6'1" | 180 lbs | QB Pearl Cohn | 2024 State TN , a Power Five offered receiver in Ondre Evans Ondre Evans 6'1" | 185 lbs | DB CPA | 2024 State TN , the Firebirds have the makings of a balanced, high scoring offense that can take them deep in the playoffs.
The Firebirds also sport a young but big and talented offensive line, led by sophomore Jason Overton Jason Overton 6'3" | 290 lbs | OL Pearl Cohn | 2024 State TN .
While the team may be a mixture of veterans and youthful talent, there are enough pieces here to win their region and give anybody they face off against in postseason play a run for their money.
There could be some lumps taken throughout the regular due to all the youth but all should be fine by the end of the season as the Firebirds have a veteran coaching staff to keep everybody in check.
Pearl Cohn is the most consistent football program for public schools in the greater Nashville area and nobody is even close to second place.
Many programs across the state have to rebuild and grow towards a hopeful championship team. Well Pearl Cohn just reloads and every season is a possible shot at a state title and the 2021 version is no different.
