The Defensive Coordinator for the Bearcats, Mike Tresse,l led the camp off with a great speech to the campers. Tressel is a fun watch with the juice and the intensity he brings to the game. Coach Tressel takes over the DC at position at UC after Marcus Freeman departed for the same position at Notre Dame. The campers then split up to different area of the facility based on position. There was plenty of talented players on hand, but here’s a few that caught my eye.
It was my first time seeing Washington High School’s Tanner LeMaster Tanner LeMaster 6'6" | 235 lbs | TE Washington Courthouse | 2023 State OH . Tanner is being looked at by college as both a TE and an OT. At 6’5 235 Tanner is a big bodied athlete. His routes were crisp and he has the strength to work through physical defenders. He could be a really strong inline blocking/receiving tight end, or with a year or two of a D1 training table and strength training program could easily be turned into a starting left tackle. Tanner has an offer from Cincinnati as well as Kentucky, Indiana, Iowa State, and a whole host of others.
Miamisburg trio of 2023’s AJ Salley AJ Salley 6'5" | 240 lbs | OL Miamisburg | 2023 State OH , Christian Davis Christian Davis 6'0" | 195 lbs | RB Miamisburg | 2023 State OH , and Jackson McGohan Jackson McGohan 6'4" | 230 lbs | TE Miamisburg | 2023 State OH were there to show their wares. Salley and Davis hold UC offers. McGohan showed off his size, speed, and ability to separate. He’s a smooth athlete who does a great job at high pointing the ball, and at 6’5 he’s going to be a big mismatch for opposing defenses. Mcgohan ran a 4.63 and 4.65 in the 40 at the camp. This is high end speed for a what I predict will be a hybrid tight end. I expect Mcgohan to blow up in the next 3-6 months.
Trotwood-Madison’s Mike Jones came into the Cincinnati camp fresh off of being offered by the University of Akron and Duke University. Jones is an athletic 2024 cornerback for the Rams. Don’t let his 5’10 and 160 pound frame fool you, he’s a kid who loves physicality. I really think he could grow into an elite shutdown CB. His hands, feet, and twitch scream man to man corner. If you’ve seen him play you know he’s got some big time dawg in him. He loves to jam wr’s at the line of scrimmage just like he loves competition and he hates to lose. His 2 D1 offers are just the start for this young defensive back.
Any time the Ginn bus rolls into town, college coaches take notice. Tedd Ginn Sr. has had his share of big time players in his time at Cleveland Glenville. Damarion Witten a 2024 for the Tarblooders, could be the next. Though Witten hasn’t gotten the chance to play varsity ball as of yet, the colleges are already getting in on him. Witten is an ATH who stands at 6’3 200 pounds, and has been offered by Michigan State and Kentucky. Michigan State offered Whitten as a QB/TE, and UK offered as a TE. I’m very excited to watch Damarion develop as a player and see what position or positions end up fitting him the best. He’s a definite player to watch in Ohio’s 2024 class.
UC head coach Luke Fickell closed the camp with a talk with the kids reminding them of the time and chance to compete that was lost due to Covid. He encouraged them to remember that when things get hard.
