On Monday afternoon, Deer Creek 2022 offensive lineman Jacob Sexton Jacob Sexton 6'6" | OL Deer Creek | 2022 State OK announced his top five schools. After receiving over 20 offers from all over the country, Sexton narrowed down his schools to Alabama, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas and Texas A&M. “It’s been stressful,” Sexton said of the recruiting process and why he narrowed his options down now. “I had some other schools that I was interested in, but not more than those five so I thought it was time to narrow things down.”
Last week, Sexton was rated as the top overall prospect in the 2022 class in our Prep Redzone rankings. He’s been considered one of the best prospects in this 2022 class since he was a freshman. Sexton and the rest of the 2022 class has had to deal with an NCAA dead period that has kept recruits from taking official visits. “It’s been very weird,” Sexton said of the recruiting process during a pandemic. “But colleges have really adapted well. We end up doing a lot of virtual tours, phone calls and texting.”
Sexton got a chance to see some college football in person in late December. He made the trip down to Dallas to watch OU in the Cotton Bowl against Florida. He also stayed in Dallas to watch the College Football Semifinal between Alabama and Notre Dame. “It was really cool just to see some college football,” Sexton said. Alabama and OU are two contenders to land Sexton. The Deer Creek standout would talk about each finalist and why they’re in his final five.
Why Alabama?
“For Alabama, it feels like it’s the best shot at making it to the next level, 100 percent. They’re consistently putting guys in the NFL. The opportunity to play for a national championship is obviously a big selling point as well.”
Why Oklahoma?
“It’s close to home, they have an unbelievable coaching staff and one of the best programs in the country.”
Why Oklahoma State?
“Stillwater is a little closer to home. Honestly, a lot of the reasons why OU is up there goes for OSU. They have a great coaching staff and a great program.”
Why Texas?
“The new coaching staff has really jumped in and gotten to work. I also think it’s cool that they got Coach Flood (former Alabama OL coach and now Texas offensive coordinator) over there now too.”
Why Texas A&M?
“They have things rolling on the offensive line. They know what they’re doing in that regard. It’s not a bad drive to College Station. I’m looking forward to getting down there and seeing some of the facilities a little closer.”
