Expert Analysis
Will Helms | Prep Redzone Scout
A high-upside athlete, Malloy continues to develop, getting better every season at Page. He has the versatility to play either safety or corner, making him an excellent college recruit. His length, hips, and ball skills make him a natural fit in the secondary, and he’s growing as a run defender, as well.

We were in early on Zion and have had him ranked as one of the best corners in the 2028 class for several months now. Playing varsity as a true freshman is a rare feat, and it’s a testament to the talent Zion has and the work he has put in so far in his career. Zion has already received offers from college football programs, which include Virginia Tech, Maryland, South Carolina, & Liberty. On film, Zion is physical at the snap, and shows impressive reactionary speed when the ball is in the air, and when he’s getting to the ball in the quick game & screen game. Zion tackles well in space, and he even shows a little offensive ability as a big-play receiver down the field for the Pirates. Zion has a bright career ahead!

Malloy’s upside is easy to see, and as he continues to grow, he’s likely a top recruit. South Carolina’s Torrian Gray sees that potential and reached out with an offer. A two-way player, he contributed as a deep threat at receiver and a standout man corner. The technique, length, and play speed are there, he just needs to continue to add good weight.

Malloy is a talented two-way player with wide receiver ball skills and the enforcing physicality of a safety… at corner. That’s a rare and exciting skill set, as it’s easier for corners to improve in coverage than to improve their speed, ball skills, or aggressiveness. As he continues to improve in man coverage, he’ll have a complete skill set, one that should excite college coaches.

– One of the top defensive back’s in the 2028 class that I’ve seen, not just in North Carolina–but the entire country. Does a great job covering the back half of the secondary as a free safety
– After seeing him in the Future Stars Game as a sixth grader, I noted his length. This year, as a seventh grader, he got even taller and longer. Sits right around 5-foot-10 and 140 pounds right now
– Has the potential to become a big time free safety if he continues to develop physically. Hope to see him add some muscle/weight in the months until I see him play live

-Really good-looking prospect I got to see live this summer as part of the North Carolina Future Stars team. Was the first, or one of the first, 2028 prospects that caught my eye.
-The length on Malloy is very impressive. At a hair under 5-foot-10 in just the seventh-grade, he already has a wingspan of 73 inches. While I don’t have verified numbers on a vertical, his limbs and springs are excellent.
-Extremely versatile Athlete for the Triad Elite Ducks. Does a borderline elite job as a “big corner” at this level but can also explode for big plays as a weapon on offense. Long term, I see a big time player in the Secondary.
