Moorhead’s Zak Walker Zak Walker 5'11" | 170 lbs | DB Moorhead | 2027 State MN , a future Minnesota Golden Gopher, took the opening kickoff the Spuds‘ eventual 42-26 win over Woodbury back to the house, and local KVRR Sports Anchor Ryan Bowlin’s film shows Walker as he hits the hole explodes through it without being touched, puts the last defender on skates while shifting his hips and cutting at top speed, and races to the endzone for a beautiful display of athleticism and playmaking ability. No updated Hudl tape from 2026 from Walker’s Hudl, but those elite track times speak for themselves, and it’s a pleasure watching the Moorhead product put them to good use on the gridiron.

DB1 in Minnesota, along with his Moorhead teammates RB1, QB1, and WR1, is heading to Dinkytown and the University of Minnesota to continue their collegiate football careers. Walker also is the owner of some unreal track and field times as a sprinter and jumper, numbers we’ve talked about before (10.56 100M, 20.92 200M, 49.40 400M, 24’8″ long jump) and numbers that translate to absolute to game-changing, game-breaking explosiveness on a high school gridiron.

Walker, against Rogers High School, went off for 7 receptions (tied for 5th in MN) for 252 yards (1st in MN) and 3 TDs (tied for second in MN). Walker showed off strength and balance through contact, explosive get-up and acceleration, and his elite top speed allows him to blow by pursuit angles and create tough 1v1 angles for tacklers in the open field. Walker is a legit threat to take it the distance every snap thanks to elite and verified track speed and a man coverage burner who can easily get behind CBs and safeties and take the top off the defense. Plus, he’s a lockdown DB. Should be a huge fall for Walker, Moorhead, & company.

We already knew there was some elite athleticism in Moorhead’s 2027 class, but the most athletic of the legendary Spuds‘ foursome of Minnesota Gophers commits may be the most underrated of the bunch. Enter CB commit Zak Walker Zak Walker 5'11" | 170 lbs | DB Moorhead | 2027 State MN , who exploded onto the state’s recruiting scene around this time last year after a standout performance at the Gophers’ prospect camp in early June. Nearly 365 days later, Walker finds himself a B1G commit in his home state, along with three of his 2027 contemporaries, and his 2026 outdoor track and field times spell out big-time potential at the next level. The fourth and final of the Minnesota commits out of Moorhead has been putting up eye-popping PRs such as a 10.56 100M, 21.29 200M, 49.40 400M, and 24’8″ long jump, a frankly outstanding combination of athletic numbers in a rising senior that we don’t see in Minnesota skill players very often.

A three-phase, splash play, explosive production with Moorhead in their inaugural season up at 6A, Walker is lighting-quick out of his breaks, and from the in-person evaluation points, Walker looks like he has the hips to play CB in college. He displays excellent start/stop ability and short-quickness that allows him to redirect and stay-phase with WRs throughout double-moves and twitchy breaks at the top of the route. Also demonstrates ball skills and toughness, as well as some of the best top end speed of anyone in the state. The film undersells the in-person impact and explosiveness.

Zak Walker Zak Walker 5'11" | 170 lbs | DB Moorhead | 2027 State MN is proving his #1 status at the DB in MN, not just for his elite coverage skills, but also for his spectacular athleticism, proving himself to also be one of the top track athletes in the state. Walker’s 10.57 second 100 yard dash time ranks as the 3rd highest among all MN track athletes so far through the 2026 season, and his 21.36 second 200 yard dash time ranks as the 2nd highest this year. Walker has proven himself to be a dangerously explosive athlete, taking reps at DB, WR, and return specialist with equal effectiveness, being able to burn defenders with the ball in his hands as well as to run the receiver’s routes as a defender and play on the ball like a receiver. Walker is a fluid DB/ATH prospect who should continue to garner a lot of D1 interest over this next season, and he will look to round out his high school career with a state championship title added to his belt.
