About Zackary
Expert Analysis
Roger Brown | Prep Redzone Scout
Zack Deschenes burst onto the high school scene as a freshman, when he helped Nashoba Valley (Mass.) finish the regular season unbeaten for the first time in the program’s history. He rushed for just over 1,000 yards and 16 touchdowns as a freshman, and increased his production significantly last season. Deschenes was selected as the Commonweath Athletic Conference’s Most Valuable Player after running for 1,692 yards and scoring 29 TDs (21 rushing) as a sophomore. Although he’s not in the fullback mode in terms of body type, he offers a good blend of power and speed and looks strong for his age. His running style makes him an effective ball carrier between the tackles and on the perimeter. He also has good football speed and can pull away from defenders once he’s in the secondary. Deschenes often took the direct snap on running plays last season, and he showed the ability to find open space quickly. His good vision and quick decision-making skills also make him a threat on kickoff returns. Based on his highlights, Deschenes played in a run-heavy offense, so it would require further evaluation to judge his receiving skills. His blocking ability wasn’t displayed in his highlights, but he certainly has a frame that would allow him to more than hold his own in that area.
