I first saw Woodring operate during the Back2Ballin 7-on-7 tournament last spring. He impressed with his arm strength and quick release. I saw that again when scouting him against Dowling Catholic in early October. Woodring commands the offense and is a leader on the field. He can get the job done lining up under center and from the gun. Woodring gets through his progressions quickly and ball placement is a strength. A first-year varsity starter as a senior, Woodring lacks experience. That should be viewed as a positive as plenty of development remains before reaching his ceiling.

Set to start under center after Vincenzo Gianforte held down the quarterback position the last three years for Kennedy, Woodring is finally getting his shot to lead the offense. A decently mobile QB that isn’t afraid to get a little creative as a passer, Woodring shows strong pocket awareness and is capable of throwing passes into relatively tight windows. He also throws the best deep ball and the tightest ball on the team.
As of now, Woodring looks like the guy for the Cougars, and his willingness to wait his turn the last three seasons could pay off for him and Kennedy this fall.

Woodring waited his turn behind a multi-year standout and hopes to take the controls in 2025. The physical tools are there for success. Woodring can spin it. His strong right arm fits the ball into tight windows. I saw him against a team with sticky defenders, and he still usually delivered the rock to his receivers. Woodring can get stuck on targets. He’d benefit from reading his guys quicker and locating the advantage. Woodring moves well and shows accuracy throwing on the run.
