Minnehaha Academy and SMB Wolfpack two-way baller Ty Malone Ty Malone 6'2" | 170 lbs | DB/WR Minnehaha Academy | 2027 State MN is possibly the biggest stock riser of the entire offseason in Minnesota, at least in the 2027 class. Malone, at least to our knowledge, didn’t camp anywhere during last year’s Summer Camp SZN, and his lack of verified measurables was the only thing holding him back from some serious college offers and exposure, as Malone had earned offers from South Dakota State and South Dakota due in large part to his impressive junior film. However, he checked more than enough boxes this outdoor T&F season, going 10.54 in the 100M and 22.05 in the 200M in just his second meet of the season. The 10.54 100M mark was the best time in Minnehaha history, and his 200M PR from this season stands at second in Redhawks‘ history.
Malone displays rare playmaking ability and can turn routine receptions into long, game-breaking TD reps. Contact balance, strong hands and a consistent presence as a pass catcher, ball skills, 50/50, contested catch ability, and a ton of production and explosiveness from the DB spot. Can break up passes on a variety of routes and is a consistent presence in run support as well. Right now, without an in-person evaluation point on Malone, I could see him playing on either side of the ball in college. Remember this name going into the 2026 Summer Camp SZN.

One of the darlings and breakout stars of the winter recruiting period, the SMB Wolfpack had the biggest turnaround of arguably any program in Minnesota last fall, and the Wolfpacks‘ pivot was helped by a Division 1 skill player and multi-phase contributor in Ty Malone Ty Malone 6'2" | 170 lbs | DB/WR Minnehaha Academy | 2027 State MN . The 6’2, 170 lber., who has earned offers from South Dakota State and South Dakota in the past couple months, finished 2025 with 20 tackles, 1 INT, 2 FFs, 13 catches for 229 receiving yards (17.6 YPC) and 4 TDs, and 259 kick return yards. Another 2027 very much in contention for the title of “Minnesota’s Best Returner”, Malone is a smooth, silky, explosive kick returner who can step and power through tackle attempts at his lower body, accelerate out of his cuts, and see and exploit space on special teams. Confident with the ball in his hand, Malone returned a KOR for six against Holy Angels and nearly broke a couple others throughout the Wolfpacks‘ 7-3 2025 campaign.
Malone also displayed his rare athleticism and playmaking ability later in his junior highlights on a simple hitch, as the 170 lber. seemed to jog by two tacklers, working back towards the rock, and stepping/spinning/pivoting 180 degrees away from a Winona DB before putting his foot on the gas and speeding upfield and away from the streaking safety like it was a jog around the park. The long, wiry three-phase standout displays great contact balance, is fearless over the middle, and can turn routine catches into game-breaking TD reception and runs, and I’m very curious about the speed – as Malone has a rep of him hawking down a loose RB from the backside CB spot in a beautiful display of speed and effort. Speaking of his DB skills, where I believe he best projects in college, Malone made some quick, effective breaks on the ball from his CB spot on both three-step quick game and deeper routes further downfield, and he owns the make up speed, ball skills, 50/50 ability, and general athleticism help him make a ton of plays on the ball from his CB spot. I can’t get a good read on his hips, but he looks bendy and shows some foot speed in his junior highlights and I would LOVE to get some verified data points on his speed especially. Minnehaha Academy, the Blake School, St. Paul Academy, Hope Academy, and Mounds Park Academy, the members of the 4A competitor SMB’s co-op football squad, was one of 2025’s biggest turnaround teams and stories. From 1 win in 2 seasons to a 7-3 2025 reversal, the Wolfpack’s success was engineered first and foremost by 2030 two-sport rising star Carter Cupito, but if you know anything about the Wolfpack’s football legacy, you shouldn’t be surprised that SMB has some serious athleticism roaming the various halls making up their 4A squad.
One of those now-heralded athletes is Top Newcomer and New Addition Ty Malone Ty Malone 6'2" | 170 lbs | DB/WR Minnehaha Academy | 2027 State MN , a two-way standout with big-time juice and playmaking ability from both sides of the ball, not to mention special teams, where he’s easily one of the most dangerous returners in Minnesota. Malone opens his tape with a very impressive KOR for a TD that involved four-five missed tackle attempts and some noticeable vision, acceleration, and overall playmaking ability. He also turned a routine hitch into a big-time splash TD after planting, rotating, stepping through the CB’s tackle attempt before burning past the flowing OLB’s pursuit line for an impressive display of speed and burst. Plus, there’s a unique and smooth TD rep vs. Richfield where Malone catches a slant, works his momentum inbetwen two Spartans who in-fact, run straight into each other, and then sticking his cleat in the turf and working vertical to out-pace those last two Richfield DBs. He easily steps and stacks CBs at the LOS thanks to his shifty and sudden releases, which helps reinforce his 18 YPC average, as well as his twitch and potency in the open field.
Malone also has game as a CB. He’s Bendy and twitchy with an aggressive press and effectiveness technique, especially at the LOS. Smooth back-pedal, reads with patience and reacts with decisiveness from his CB spot, and his excellent top-end speed helped him save a TD on a beautiful pursuit angle from the backside CB spot. His naturally works to rip and punch at the pigskin as a tackler – which speaks to his overall playmaking ability, and had an impressive INT vs. Richfield thanks to a very quick break on a hitch that he picked ripped out of the WR’s hands and tried to take back for six
South Dakota and South Dakota State have offered the Minnehaha Academy junior so far! You can bet your butt more are coming.
