I vividly remember the day that Springfield head coach Mo Douglass introduced me to Class of 2029 prospect TJ “Timmy” Thompson. Back then, he was a rail-thin receiver, but the staff knew what he could become. Thompson has since grown to 6-foot-2 with a 176-pound frame. He is very good at making defenders miss after the catch, quickly getting vertical. Very good downfield threat who can high point the ball. Has picked up offers from Louisville and Penn State since mid-August.

Thompson emerged in his freshman season as a big-time vertical threat for Springfield. Thompson has the speed to press opposing cornerbacks. He creates vertical separation and he may have the best ball skills and contested catch ability in the class. His film shows the ability to make diving and jump ball catches through contact.

Last year Coach Douglass at Springfield told us Timmothy Thompson would be a name to know, and the head coach for the Wildcats was certainly correct. Thompson is a very athletic receiver who goes up for the ball. He can high-point, displays good long speed, and wins contested catches. He has played both inside and outside receiver, great adjustment to the ball. Thompson is still a freshman, yet he is already a 6-foot-2, 176-pound receiver with three more years to go. Recent offers include UConn and Toledo. Expect him to become a national recruit.

The Springfield Wildcats will always be known for their skill position talent. So, for a freshman skill player like Thompson to break into the varsity rotation is impressive unto itself. He projects as an X at the college level. Timothy is a player who will be able to stretch the field with his speed and ball skills. He’s not just a field stretcher he’s a player who can then breakoff routes for easy separation and conversions.

The young and talented receiver had the lone touchdown on the evening for the Wildcats. The touchdown came on a 4th and goal from the 26-yard line where Thompson went up and hauled in a 50-50 ball in the corner of the endzone. Thompson is very athletic and fluid in his route running creating separation against older more experienced players.
