Shaye Sykes Shaye Sykes 5'9" | 160 lbs | DB Chaminade | 2028 State NY earned a spot on my 2nd Team All-Camp squad after consistently proving himself as one of the more technically polished defensive backs at NY Exposure Series. I was impressed with how smoothly he flipped his hips, stayed tight through transitions, and reacting to receivers without losing positioning. Shaye showed strong instincts in coverage all day, frequently jumping into passing windows and disrupting throws with well timed pass breakups. One of his best traits was his recovery ability and closing speed, as he constantly stayed within striking distance and found ways to make plays on the football even when initially challenged downfield.

At the cornerback position, Shaye Sykes impressed throughout the event with his athleticism, instincts, and ability to stay attached in coverage. What stood out most was his ability to pivot smoothly, stay low through transitions, and react quickly to receivers’ movements, allowing him to mirror routes effectively. Shaye consistently found ways to get into passing lanes and swat passes away, showing strong timing and awareness in coverage. His catch up speed was one of his biggest strengths, as he never seemed out of range of making a play on the football.

The Chaminade playmaker had a breakout season at Safety for the Flyers, and has done well on the 7v7 circuit this offseason. Standing at 5’9″ 160-Pounds, he has a solid frame for a DB, and should look to reach the 170-175-Pound mark to help fill out his frame. Sykes is a true ball hawk, who benefits from the ball coming his way. He has a high IQ, and reads an offense well, showing good instincts and body control, paired with high level footwork, and speed which allows him to make plays on the ball.
