Fredericks has good ball skills and a good feel for the game from the safety position. He shows good change of direction for his size and some closing speed on tape. Fredericks has good range in coverage and showcases the ability to be a sideline-to-sideline playmaker. Fredericks uses his length to be an effective tackler wrapping up guys and consistently finishing guys with low pad level. Fredericks has the length, athleticism, and tackling ability to be an effective safety at the next level.

Shamir Fredericks Shamir Fredericks 6'4" | 170 lbs | DB Hostos Lincoln Academy | 2024 State NY , a top safety prospect with elite length picked up a local offer from UCONN and his physical tools are what separates him from other top defensive back prospects in the state, very similar to the way Ian Strong Ian Strong 6'4" | 180 lbs | ATH St. Anthony's | 2023 State NY was a top DB in 2023. Fredericks looks like one of the best safety prospects in the 24 class just like Strong was in 23.

Shamir Fredericks Shamir Fredericks 6'4" | 170 lbs | DB Hostos Lincoln Academy | 2024 State NY has elite length at 6-4 and his range as a safety is really solid. Fredericks does a good job of reading route patterns and when he can keep everything in front of him is one of the best playmakers on the ball. Fredericks has some of the best tools in this class and has a really high ceiling because of that. Fredericks however, can take a big step this season as a run defender and with his physicality both in coverage and tackling. Fredericks is lean but the skillset is there in coverage, rounding out that skillset will be important headed into this fall.
