I typically do not bother watching film where prospects do not identify themselves; however, given that Robert Rossano appears to have started varsity as a freshman on the 3-time Group V State Champion, I simply had to watch. Rossano alternated at either guard spot and might have been designated the pulling guard… and pull with authority is something he did often and well. Moving very quickly, Rossano gets to his assignment in a hurry and keeps his feet churning through contact. Something more advanced, Rossano can turn on a dime and adjust his path when his assignment looks to olé him, as well as peel back inside. As he pulls, and climbs to the second level alike, we see Rossano get through the hole quickly and with acceleration as a lead blocker would. Moreover, Rossano finds cloth at the second level exceptionally well. Touching back on the prior note about him peeling back, his feet are also quick enough to effectively peel back in pass protection. It appears that the freshman state champion also does a good job of controlling his opponent’s chest plate, grabbing cloth well when drive blocking. Unfortunately I get the sense that Rossano’s college upside will depend on how big he grows. That said, I would encourage him to learn how to snap if he has plans to play collegiately.

attended the PRZ Next Middle School event this past January and performed well; This past weekend at the PRZ Next Middle School Combine, the future Toms River North Mariner matched that effort with another strong showing. Up 10 pounds from the winter, Rossano measured in at a stout 5-foot-11 and 245-pounds. If it wasn’t clear before, Rossano certainly confirmed that he’s an interior Offensive Lineman at the combine this past weekend. He did well with the opposing bigs on the inside and was strong/physical at the point of attack. His feet got heavy at times and the more athletic rushers gave him a bit of a hard time once they started revving their engines, but if he was able to get inside hands and sit, he more than held his own.

I was very proud of the way Rossano handled his business at the New Jersey Prep Redzone Next Middle School Camp this past Sunday. Rossano was arguably the top offensive lineman I saw during tryouts for the 14U New Jersey AYF National All-Star this past September and I felt good about him. Then, I saw him again this past December at AYF Nationals in Florida and he was playing with a huge cast on his hand and forearm, due to a fracture in practice leading up to the tournament–meaning he obviously wasn’t 100%. Without more to go off of, I left him off the initial New Jersey 2028 Watchlist for offensive linemen. His performance at camp, erased any doubt and he earned a spot on that list. Is starting to fill out nicely, as I had him at 215 pounds in September and he is now up to 235. He moved very well and was clearly one of the more athletic and versatile Hog Molly’s.

was his counterpart on the offensive line. The Toms River prospect looked to be atop the list of offensive linemen at the tryout and at 5-foot-11 and a proportioned 220 pounds (size not verified), he has the versatility to play anywhere across the front. Played with an attitude the whole tryout and didn’t stop until the guy across from him was on his back or bulldozed out of the hole. Rossano also did a good job on his defensive reps and was one of the few true interior defensive tackles in the group. Look for him to be one of the leaders on the line for this 14U All-Star team.
