was one of the breakout stars of the 2022 football season. After missing almost all of his sophomore season with an injury, Martens returned last fall and became the team’s leading receiver. This season, Martens is the other half of the dynamic duo with Burris at the wide receiver position. Martens is just a few yards away from a second consecutive season with at least 1,000 yards receiving. He also has found the end zone more times this season with 17 on the year. Martens is still a big target in this Fairview offense and a player to watch in Saturday’s title game.

as an early candidate for breakout star in Class A. He missed almost all of his sophomore season in 2021 and was incredibly hungry heading into the 2022 season. He became Bernard’s top target in the passing game and became one of the top wide receivers in Class A last season. As we head into the 2023 season, with the Bernard-Martens connection returning for another run, we expect Martens to be one of the top wide receivers in the state from a statistical perspective. Martens caught nearly 70 passes for nearly 1,000 yards and would finish off the year with 15 touchdowns and he’s just scratching the surface on what he can be.

. We wrote about Martens back in July when taking a look at the Yellowjackets and how he could be the X-Factor to them making a run this season. He was having an outstanding sophomore season but he had it cut short with a collarbone injury. This season, Martens has come back with a vengeance and has been the top producer at the receiver postiion. Martens has just over 900 yards and 15 touchdowns on 62 catches this season. The combination of Bernard and Martens are going to be dangerous next year and there’s a good reason to believe that the Yellowjackets are going to be a contender once again next season. But up first is the state title game on Saturday. Like we mentioned with Bernard, the Gore defense has been incredibly stingy this season so getting points when they can get them will be important.
