FARIVIEW’S TEN PLAYERS TO WATCH
Our first player to watch for the defending champs is junior Boden Miller Boden Miller 6’0″ | LB Fairview | 2025 OK at the linebacker position. Miller is the first of three defensive standouts that come into Saturday’s championship game with over 100 tackles on the season. Miller is a tackling machine and the Yellowjackets have a few of them coming into the title clash with Hooker. Miller is going to be a player to watch on the defensive side of the ball. Hooker is playing outstanding football right now and Miller and the Yellowjackets are going to look to set the tone early on in the game. Miller has to be considered a breakout star after this stellar junior season.
The first Fairview senior that deserves mention is defensive back Brant Strader Brant Strader 5’11” | DB Fairview | 2024 OK heading into the championship game. Strader is one of several defensive backs to keep an eye on. Strader is the third leading receiver in a Fairview offense that is one of the best in Class A. But it’s Strader’s ability on the defensive side of the ball that lands him a spot on this breakdown. Strader leads the team in interceptions and he’s also second on the team in pass break ups. Hooker’s offense has played efficient offense over the last month. Strader and the Fairview defense will look to slow them down on Saturday.
Junior standout Easton Hamar Easton Hamar 6’1″ | 175 lbs | ATH Fairview | 2025 OK is a two-way player to watch on Saturday afternoon. Hamar has the potential to be the most impactful defensive back on the field on Saturday. Hamar leads the team in pass breakups and Hooker has some legitimate playmakers on the offensive side of the ball. Hamar is also one of the top receivers on the offensive side of the ball. But when we take a look at Saturday’s match-up, we think that Hamar’s ability on defense is going to be the thing that leads to Fairview’s success. If he’s able to play lockdown defense in the secondary, Fairview will be in good shape for another title.
Highlights
Another junior linebacker to keep an eye on this Saturday is Elijah Winans Elijah Winans 6’0″ | LB Fairview | 2025 OK when you consider some of the production he’s had this season. Winans leads the team in tackles for loss and has a good understanding of the defensive side of the ball. As Winans and the Fairview defense look to limit what Hooker can do offensively, don’t be surprised to see Winans find his way into the opposing backfield a few times throughout the afternoon. Similar to Miller, Winans was somewhat of an unknown coming into this season. But after the production he’s had on defense, it’s hard to imagine he’s still an unknown.
Coming into this season, one of the positions we were circling was the running back position. The defending champs had to find someone to replace Blake Perez and that wasn’t going to be an easy task when you consider the production he had at the running back position. Junior running back Grant Church Grant Church 5’11” | RB Fairview | 2025 OK came into this season as the player to expect to break out at running back and he’s been able to back up the preseason hype. Church leads the team in carries and he comes into Saturday’s title clash with over ten touchdowns. When the Yellowjackets have gone to him, he’s been able to produce.
Fairview senior wide receiver Isaiah Burris Isaiah Burris 5’9″ | WR Fairview | 2024 State OK didn’t come out of nowhere this season but he is without a doubt one of the breakout stars for the Yellowjackets. Last season, he had a little over 600 yards and six touchdowns. This season, he leads the team in every receiving category with over 1,500 yards and 20 touchdowns on the season. He’s become the top target in this high-powered Fairview passing attack with 80 receptions on the season. But Burris is also going to be a big name to watch in the return game. He’s returned four kicks for touchdowns and also has a punt return for another score this season.
Fairview junior quarterback Jax Bernard Jax Bernard 5’11” | 170 lbs | QB Fairview | 2025 State OK has taken his game to new heights this season. He leads the high-powered Fairview attack and we knew he was going to be one of the best players in Class A but he has exceeded all expectations coming into this season. He’s thrown for over 3,100 yards and 45 touchdowns with only six interceptions. He also leads the team in rushing with nearly 750 yards and 16 touchdowns on the ground. And back in September when Fairview beat Hooker, Bernard could not be stopped. He finished with over 400 passing yards and six touchdowns and 70 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
Mikka Wheeler Mikka Wheeler LB Fairview | 2025 OK is another junior defensive standout that has enjoyed a breakout season on that side of the ball. Wheeler is the second of three defensive standouts to come into Saturday’s championship game against Hooker with over 100 tackles. When you consider all of the production on the defensive side of the ball is coming from juniors, the future is very bright for Fairview moving forward. Wheeler is going to be a player to watch on Saturday, not only because he can rack up the tackles, but he can also stuff the stat sheet in other categories. No matter where he is on the field, he can be a difference maker.
Fairview senior wide receiver Reed Martens Reed Martens 6’3″ | 170 lbs | WR Fairview | 2024 State OK was one of the breakout stars of the 2022 football season. After missing almost all of his sophomore season with an injury, Martens returned last fall and became the team’s leading receiver. This season, Martens is the other half of the dynamic duo with Burris at the wide receiver position. Martens is just a few yards away from a second consecutive season with at least 1,000 yards receiving. He also has found the end zone more times this season with 17 on the year. Martens is still a big target in this Fairview offense and a player to watch in Saturday’s title game.
Our final defensive standout to keep an eye on is Fairview senior Tegan Gilchrist Tegan Gilchrist 5’10” | LB Fairview | 2024 OK at the linebacker position. Gilchrist came into this season as the team’s leading tackler from last year’s state championship team. And coming into Saturday’s championship game, Gilchrist is once again in the lead on the team in tackles. He’s the third and final defensive standout to have over 100 tackles. After finishing last season with over 100 tackles, Gilchrist did it again this season and he has a good chance to finish his senior season with at least 150 tackles. Gilchrist will be a big name to watch on defense.
