Linn-Mar’s improvement as the 2025 season advanced coincided with growth from Runge, a sophomore that delivered key contributions on defense. Twenty of his 23.0 tackles were solo stops. He intercepted a pass and added a tackle for loss. A good athlete, Runge saw action on the Lion Basketball varsity this past winter. He held up well when I watched him match up with a strong group of Iowa City West receivers in the football regular-season finale. His 10th-grade highlight video offers more evidence of his talents on the gridiron. The first clip has him reading a play well in zone coverage and breaking on the ball for an interception. We see that throughout the film. Runge stands out for his diagnosing plays well, smooth actions, ability to change directions and break on the ball. His long arms also help close windows after making them small at the beginning. A projectable frame has a chance to fill out and add strength while holding the speed and athleticism.
