The youngest of the contenders, Roling emerged as QB1 from a competition at Linn-Mar heading into the 2025 season. The sophomore accounted well for himself, completing over 60 percent of his throws for 888 yards and seven touchdowns against just two interceptions in a run-heavy attack. To that end, Roling added 234 yards (5.0 YPC) and seven scores rushing. I watched him play in person at Iowa City West in last year’s regular-season finale. Despite a loss, Roling gave his team chances with his dual-threat ability. His campaign provided hope for the next two years with he and other key contributors returning. The Linn-Mar 7v7 squad turned heads at the recent Back 2 Ballin High Tournament in Cedar Falls. Roling was at the controls of a second-place finish in the event, the Lions outlasting many more established club teams. The sophomore was spreading the ball around to a talented group of pass catchers, connecting on throws to all spots on the 40-yard field. He’s an attractive mix of present production and a high ceiling. Roling has a chance to take a huge step forward as a football prospect in the fall.

I was interested in getting a look at the sophomore signal caller when pulling up to watch the Lions line up at Iowa City West on Oct. 24, 2025. He was posting solid numbers, and the team’s performance was improving as the season progressed. Against an aggressive defense on the Trojans’ senior night, Roling held up well. He showed poise under pressure and delivered passes that showed off arm strength and accuracy. Ability in keeping plays alive off schedule, combined with all-out talent as a runner chewing up yards on the ground, pressured the opponent. Roling’s skill set is interesting, made more so by his youth. He has room to grow and mature before reaching his ceiling.
