About Nelson
Expert Analysis
Marcus Henry | Prep Redzone Scout
Peterson is coming off a strong opening-round performance where he threw for 219 yards and totaled two touchdowns. As Forney prepares for a tough matchup against Harker Heights, Peterson’s blend of arm strength and athleticism will be critical. He’s dangerous both in and out of the pocket, able to make throws on the move and hurt defenses as a runner. If Forney advances, expect Peterson to be a major reason why.

Peterson is a big, strong, athletic gunslinger who can get it done with his legs as well. He consistently drives the ball down the field with a lot of zip and power out of the hand. With fluid footwork in and out of the pocket, Peterson does a great job of buying time and throwing accurate passes at any level of the field. Rolling out or flipping one off his back foot, Peterson is a dynamic passer, producing over 2,300 yards and 26 touchdowns. Not to mention, the leader of the Jackrabbits also added over 700 yards and 7 touchdowns on the ground. Peterson has the frame and raw talent to be a high-upside quarterback at the next level. His offer list includes Wake Forest, Utah State, and UTSA.

Nelson impressed at the UTSA camp with his poise, arm talent, and command of the field. From the first throw, he showed a smooth release and consistent accuracy, especially on intermediate and deep routes. During drill work and 1-on-1s, he displayed great timing with receivers and the ability to anticipate breaks. What stood out the most was his composure under pressure he never looked rattled, even when the pocket got tight. With continued development, Nelson has all the tools to become a high level quarterback down the line.
