Matthew McGregor
About Matthew
Expert Analysis
Amal Scott | Prep Redzone Scout
Matt has a quick first step and gets hands on defenders quickly. He has good strength and can move players of any size. He is quick enough to pull to the edge or get to the second level, and looks to finish every block. He is a MAC truck in the trenches, and should earn more attention from the NCAA this Fall.

Matthew plays with quick feet and plays with a wide base. He gets hands on defenders quickly and drives them out of the play. He works well in the run game, getting to the second level and also pulling to the edge. In the pass pro, he has fast feet and quick hands to cover rushers quickly. He has the strength to over power some defenders and the speed to meet them downfield. A great mix of size and skill, this guy looks good.

McGregor, a two-year contributor on a very talented St. Anthony’s team in the NYCHSFL will transfer and reclassify to Choate Rosemary Hall in Connecticut. Choate Rosemary Hall has been a perennial powerhouse in New England the past several years and McGregor will add to an already impressive offensive line that projects to have multiple division one talents with McGregor in the fold this fall.

McGregor followed up a good sophomore year with a stellar junior season. He continues to prove that he has some of the best feet out of any offensive lineman in the state. He has amazing patience and was a force in both pass protection and run blocking. He’ll be the leader of the Friars line next season which returns a good amount of talent.

Already off to a terrific start to the offseason, McGregor is a player that could make a serious name for himself by the end of the summer. He will be a force in 1v1 reps thanks to his elite footwork. Smaller defensive lineman who utilize their agility and speed will have a tough time with Mcgregor. He has quick feet and is one of the stronger lineman in this class. It was his first year on Varsity as a sophomore in the toughest league in New York, he made tons of strides throughout the year and the development is only going to continue. His high motor is always something that sticks out and it will show this summer. His junior year will feature some matchups with some of the best defensive lineman in the Northeast.

was consistent as a blocker and did a fantastic job of being competitive with every rep. Several talented defensive linemen outnumbered the OL, meaning OL was getting nearly double the reps. By the end of 1v1s and drills, McGregor was one of the only blockers who did not seem to slow down. He was winning most of his reps, and he was competing through the whistle and always fighting for better positioning in the reps where he did not dominate. McGregor also had some of the best footwork we saw at camp and did an excellent job of utilizing his lower half to get into a great position.

. McGregor showed quick feet throughout every drill he competed in. Because of this, he was rarely out of position and protected his adjacent gap. When coming off of double teams he would stab his off-arm out, creating space and putting an obstacle up for defenders to compete with. In a zone scheme this allows him to react to whether the defender is fighting over or under his block to try to make the play, allowing McGregor to match up with him accordingly. An area of growth would be to continue working his hands when driving. Fighting for inside leverage and controlling the chest plate will help McGregor maintain control of defenders.

is not a full-time starter for St. Anthonys but he does get a fair amount of reps for the #1 team in New York State. McGregor has great positional versatility and has had reps at tackle and guard throughout the season. McGregor does a really solid job of getting to the second level on run plays and does a good job of coming off double teams to take on other defenders. McGregor could improve his raw strength and be more of a mauler as a young blocker but as only a sophomore McGregor is succeeding against some of the top lineman in the top league in New York. McGregor does a solid job in pass protection and has a strong base. Once he gets his hands on a defender they struggle to get away from McGregor. Lot’s of potential for McGregor who is arguably one of the best prospects in the NYCHSFL.
