is another 5A standout that found his way on to the PRZ-Oklahoma Player Of The Year watchlist. We knew about Lund coming into this season but he has been without a doubt one of the best players in the state. Similar to Harper at Guthrie, it seems like every single week, Lund is running for around 150 yards and three touchdowns and making it look easy. Granted, the majority of Elgin’s games have been decided by halftime. Lund became the school’s all time leading rusher earlier this season and has continued to dominate week in and week out.

After week eight, a lot of the talk in Class 5A centered around the Carl Albert-Guthrie instant classic and whether or not those two would have a rematch for the state title. Elgin made a statement on Friday night that overlooking the Owls would be unwise. They absolutely smashed Lawton MacArthur in a very loud statement win in week nine. Senior running back

continued to pad his stats and extend the school’s all time rushing yardage mark. He finished with 15 carries for just over 150 yards and two touchdowns. He also added a receiving touchdown to his total and continues to be a threat out of the backfield in the passing game this season. Now, Elgin focuses on a week ten road test against Midwest City in a rematch of last year’s heartbreaking loss to the Bombers.

Class 5A has running backs. That’s been a massive theme this year. Elgin’s senior running back

has established himself as one of the best in the class and in the state. Earlier this month, Lund broke the school’s all time record record for rushing yards in a career. And this season in particular, he has been a dominant back that has plenty of tread on the tires. He only has 89 carries through eight games and he’s closing in on the 1,300 yard mark and has 15 touchdowns on the season. With Lund not having that big of a workload on his legs this season, we anticipate that is going to change moving forward. As the competition level goes up, we expect the carries to go up as well. And Lund has proven already this season that good things happen when the ball is in his hands.

The Elgin Owls are the best team that not enough people are talking about. After being a surprise team in Class 5A last season, the Owls brought back nearly everyone and are a legitimate threat in the 5A title race. Leading the way has been a balanced offense that has been highlighted by senior

at the running back position. Lund had another stellar performance last week in their district-opening win over El Reno. He ran for nearly 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also added a pair of touchdown receptions in the win. On the season, he’s run for over 600 yards and six touchdowns and he also has over 100 receiving yards and four touchdowns. What’s really impressive about Lund is he’s produced at a high level despite splitting carries and most of Elgin’s games have been over by halftime. They look to remain unbeaten on the season this week when they travel to face Ardmore.

It’s only week three and we’ve seen some really good running backs already but Elgin senior

is up there in terms of the hardest-running standouts in the state. The senior seemed to never get tired and he ended up leading the team in rushing. Lund would finish with 116 yards and a pair of touchdowns and it honestly could have been even more. Lund was also a safety net for Lorah as a receiver out of the backfield. The Owls have some weapons at wide receiver and Lorah is certainly a capable passer but there’s no doubt that this team is a run-first squad and Lund is excellent in that department. Fresh off a 200+ yard performance last week, Lund had an excellent night on the road in western Oklahoma as the Owls continue to build momentum.

One of several 5A/4A match-ups featuring ranked opponents will see 5A’s #4 Elgin hitting the road to face 4A’s #6 Weatherford. For the Owls, this week will be the first real challenge and it comes at a great time as they prepare for a very tough district stretch starting next week. Leading the way for the Owls so far this season has been senior running back

and he’s coming off a stellar performance in week two. He only touched the ball 11 times and would account for well over 200 total yards of offense and two touchdowns in their win over Cache. The Owls have been on fire so far this season and Lund is a big reason why. He’s one of the more experienced players on the team and he’s looking to help lead the Owls to new heights this fall. Last season, they were one of the surprise teams in Class 5A. This year, they look to contend.
