Penrod’s role at Cesar Chavez is much more than on the field, as he’s a big reason as to why their building such a great culture over there. In his first year at Chavez in 2024 (played his freshman season at Camelback), Penrod led Chavez to a 7-3 regular season record and has officially drawn eyes across the state back to the program. He sizes up with a good frame at 6’3″ 205lbs and possesses both competitive and physical toughness. He flashes a good understanding of coverages and does a good job getting the ball out with timing and placement to hit throws in soft sports vs various zone coverages, and throws an excellent deep ball as well. This could be a huge year for Penrod and Chavez.

looked like a totally different quarterback at ASU 7s compared to what we saw last season — in the best possible way. As a sophomore, he showed off a really solid deep ball, but there were times when he leaned on it a little too much. At ASU, that wasn’t the case. He looked way more balanced, way more composed, and it felt like he was really starting to take command of the position. You could see the growth in how he went through his progressions. He wasn’t just locking onto his first read — he was patient, reading the field, and getting the ball where it needed to go. His mechanics looked smooth, and the game seemed to slow down for him a bit. He wasn’t forcing throws or rushing decisions, which shows real maturity. When he did decide to go deep, it was calculated and clean — not just taking shots for the sake of it. You could tell he’s starting to understand when to take risks and when to keep things on schedule. That’s a big step for any young QB. With his improved decision-making and the confidence he’s clearly gaining, he’s in line for a big jump this fall. If he builds on what we saw at ASU 7s once the pads come on, don’t be surprised if his name keeps popping up more and more.

Penrod created a buzz last year by leading Cesar Chavez to a 7-3 record and putting them back on the map. He did a great job throwing the deep ball on those outside vertical routes, showing the ability to hit hole shots on a 2-ball or throw with touch and air it out on a 3-ball down the field in stride. Very underrated as a runner, as he’s athletic enough to pick up yards with his legs and runs with a purpose- not shying away to put a shoulder down and keep momentum forward within his 6’3″ 205lb frame.

High upside QB prospect that transferred to Cesar Chavez after playing his freshman season at Camelback. 6’2” 200 lbs. he’s got a fluid throwing motion with an accelerated delivery to get the ball out quick and on time. Possesses natural arm strength with good footwork/mechanics to finish his throws and follow through with his hips. Throws are precise and in the right spots to allow his to make a play on the ball and run after the catch. Ball comes out with good velocity and spin to all areas of the field. Flashes good field vision to scan the field and not force the ball into tight coverage. Coach like his intangibles and leadership abilities. Career at Cesar Chavez is off to a strong start as he led his team to a championship and undefeated record at his first 7’s tournament.

In terms of having a varsity-ready body already, the big lefty certainly ranks at, or near, the top. Thick calves, shoulders and lats. Checks a lot of boxes fundamentally. Another one that looks like he could become big time.
