Once committed to Virginia Tech but now back on the open market, Barnes, Jr is the top ranked defensive prospect available from the #TN2024 class and should be one of the more pursued recruits during the month of January. Several Power Five and D1 programs have been in touch with Barnes, Jr since his decommitment with Syracuse becoming a big player. The Blue Tornado senior defender is a talented young man with good size and a skill set that could be developed at either cornerback or safety. Barnes, Jr has already announced that he will make his commitment in February on signing day, so it will be interesting to see where he eventually lands.

Explosive and physical corner with average size. Aggressive, mixes it up with receivers throughout the route, and stays on the opponent’s hip out of breaks. Shows a burst to the ball, can drive out of his plant, and has a nice move to the throw. Tracks the pass in the air and effectively times pass defenses.

One of the hottest defensive prospects in the state over the last few months has been this Chattanooga area defender who is turning into a national recruit due to his size, speed and position versatility. Ranked currently as the 3rd best defensive back, Barnes, Jr brings a lot of strong traits to the football field that gets you excited! His size alone provides a mismatch problem for smaller receivers but it also lends strong in his potential to become a cover corner on the next level. Many college coaches are recruiting this guy simply as a defensive back as Barnes, Jr could play a variety of roles within the secondary but you don’t know where just yet. That’s a good thing because Barnes, Jr is well versed in the game of football and a natural athlete that just needs to be put on the field and he will excel.

Over the last two months, Barnes, Jr has possibly been the hottest, most wanted defensive back in the state and while he holds multiple strong offers already, I believe he isn’t done adding some powerhouse programs to the list. This East Tennessee defender has strong versatility to play several roles within the secondary while also sporting the potential to stay outside at cornerback. Georgia kicked open the door towards bigger schools getting involved with their recent offer as this Blue Tornado defender may have as much potential as any defensive prospect from our in-state #TN2024 class.
