Griffin’s junior tape is outrageously good, and it’s obvious how much work he’s put in. His athleticism at 300-plus pounds is impressive, as big guys shouldn’t move like that. He wasn’t just performing against overmatched opponents, as his tape against some of the best edge rushers in the state stands out.

When looking at offensive linemen in Wake County for our deep dives series, I came away impressed with Griffin’s potential. He has great footwork and a solid kickstep to get out on faster edge rushers and he flashes some nastiness. I’d like to see him be a bit more consistent in the running game on a down-to-down basis, but the traits and talent are both there.

of Cardinal Gibbons is a good-looking physical prospect for a Cardinal Gibbons team who had a strong season overall. Playing left tackle, Malek shows some athletic footwork in pass protection against defensive ends, not giving the short corner around the edge against their pass rushes. Malek has some nastiness to his game also when he gets his hands on smaller defensive linemen – finishing them in the dirt with impressive aggression. Malek can also work 2nd level in space and fit and drive against linebackers well. As he continues to develop his overall strength in his upper body, I think he will become an even more effective drive blocker off the ball, but he is a very good pass blocker already for his level as a sophomore.
