Primarily a defensive end, Cockerham does a ton of things within Cardinal Gibbons’ scheme that go unnoticed in the box score. But there’s a reason several teams tried to recruit him as a tight end. He doesn’t get as much volume on offense, but he’s a highly athletic two-way guy who moves well. Don’t be surprised if he’s a two-way threat as a senior.

Griffin came into this camp with a 3.83 GPA, a strong asset for his recruitment. Griffin is also a two-time returning All-Conference player who can contribute on both sides of the ball. Griffin competed at the EDGE position at this showcase, and I liked his quickness off the football and I thought he took coaching well during the positional individual period. Griffin showed a nice dip & rip move during the 1 on 1 period, as well as a counter to it on a 2nd rep, showing he has some good moves in his pass rush arsenal.

Cockerham plays both ways and we don’t have a great idea yet as to which side of the ball he’ll be best at. As a sophomore, we expect him to grow most as an edge rusher, as he’s learning how to use his size and strength to put offensive linemen off balance. Cockerham has a frame that can carry 20-30 more pounds. If he can do that and retain his quickness off the line, he’ll develop into one of the top pass rushers in the state.
