Expert Analysis
Josh White | Prep Redzone Scout
Mims operates with a natural rhythm that shows up immediately on tape. The arm talent is obvious – he can drive throws on a rope or layer touch passes over defenders without breaking mechanics. What stands out is his ability to stay accurate on the move, consistently delivering catchable balls outside of structure. His release is quick and efficient, with minimal wasted motion, allowing him to get the ball out before windows fully open.
There’s a calmness to his game that allows him to stay composed under pressure rather than forcing throws. As a runner he’s a legitimate threat who can extend plays and pick up chunk yardage when lanes open.

is an impressive QB from Oxford who’s landed as our #6 QB and #68 overall prospect in the class after his standout year last fall.
“Mims has a live arm capable of making incredible throws both inside and outside of the pocket. He’s great at finding the open man, can accurately lead his targets downfield, and has an impressive ability to make throws under pressure and off platform.
On top of that, Mims has some real mobility and speed that he consistently uses to his advantage. He’s great at extending plays and can easily turn upfield to move the chains if necessary. Overall, I’m really impressed with what Mims did in his sophomore season. I think he has an even bigger year ahead next fall.”
If you haven’t watched Mims before, be sure to check out some of his clips below. He’s a talented passer with a huge junior season ahead of him- I think he’s going to find a lot of success.

Mims is one of the more productive 2028 QBs in Alabama and has built a good reputation for himself early on. He is built into his 6’0 frame with a low center of gravity. He is explosive both as a passer and as an athlete, muscling the ball around the yard both on and off platform. As a runner, he is capable of keeping plays alive and keeping the offense ahead of the chains. Mims should continue being a name to monitor as he enters the final two years of his HS career.

led Oxford to an impressive 42-7 win over Helena, delivering a near-flawless performance through the air. Mims completed 10 of 14 passes for 290 yards and 4 touchdowns, showcasing excellent decision-making and pinpoint accuracy. He consistently found open receivers, spreading the ball around and keeping the defense guessing. Mims’ ability to stretch the field vertically opened up the running game and allowed Oxford to control the tempo from start to finish. His poise in the pocket and command of the offense make him one of Alabama’s top signal-callers this season.

-Suited up as QB1 this past season for Oxford Middle School in Alabama this past year. Oxford is a talent-rich program that turns out next-level prospects annually, so quite impressive for a 2028 prospect to start.
-Does a nice job of moving the pocket, whether it be on purpose or out of necessity, and keeping his eyes downfield to make a play. Would label him a dual-threat, but he certainly looks to pass more on film.
-Was a family affair this past season. Maddox was coached by his Uncle at OMS, and played alongside his cousin TE/DE
