The next player is another prospect I have covered. Here is what Coach Starck had to say on Luke, “ Luke Newell Luke Newell 6'2" | 200 lbs | ATH Thurston | 2024 State OR is the younger brother of division one tight end, Jake Newell. Luke is in the same mold. He’s a big target with great hands who creates matchup issues for smaller defenders. He was selected to the Les Schwab Bowl roster.” Luke is a fantastic football player and is an uber-athletic tight end, he is a borderline wide receiver. He will be a top player not just in 5A but in all of Oregon.

Now we have Luke Newell Luke Newell 6'2" | 200 lbs | ATH Thurston | 2024 State OR out of Thurston High School. Luke is also an athletic TE, as he is on the smaller side for the position and is a borderline WR for the Colts. I like Luke as a prospect because he runs clean routes and can finish them with great catches. His ability to easily catch the ball over the shoulder is impressive, as some high school players can’t do that. He is also a smart football player; Luke does an excellent job of reading the defense and knows when to sit in a zone, which is a great skill for a tight end. Lastly, his blocking was solid for a smaller tight end. He can move in space and engage with defenders; I would just like him to drive his feet and finish the block more. I cannot wait to watch Luke’s senior season and am excited to see how his recruiting pans out.
