We now have a better understanding of which teams are genuinely talented, which teams may have had a stroke of luck in the first few weeks, and which teams are looking to improve for next season. I will provide a preview for each game in week 6 by conference for the 5A level. The Midwestern League is up first this week. Each game will include a prediction and highlight some players from each team to watch based on their recent performances.
#15 Eagle Point (3-2) @ #6 Thurston (3-2)
Prediction: Thurston def. Eagle Point 38-14.
Last week, Thurston defeated #8 Springfield 34-13 in a tough game. This week, they will face another strong contender in Eagle Point, but based on their recent performance, I believe Thurston will come out on top once again. Quarterback Noah Blair Noah Blair 6'2" | 180 lbs | QB Thurston | 2025 State OR had an outstanding performance last week, completing 17 out of 21 passes for 205 yards and scoring 4 passing touchdowns and 1 rushing touchdown. Eagle Point also had an impressive win in their last game, but they will need to play exceptionally well to keep up with Thurston’s talented players.

#8 Springfield (4-1) @ Churchill (2-3)
Prediction: Springfield def. Churchill 37-20.
Springfield suffered their first loss of the year in a tough game against #6 Thurston. There was a lot of hype and excitement leading up to the game last week, and losing in such a manner must have been disappointing for the Millers. It remains to be seen how they will handle adversity. Churchill, who is coming off a convincing win against South Eugene, is expected to provide a tough challenge for the Millers. While I believe that Springfield will emerge victorious, the game may be closer than they are accustomed to.

Willamette (0-5) @ Crater (1-4)
Prediction: Crater def. Willamette 42-21.
Crater secured their first victory of the season against North Eugene and is likely to improve their record to 2-4 after this week’s game. Although Willamette has faced tough opponents so far, they are not as weak as most winless teams. However, they are expected to struggle for the remainder of the season as they are probably the least-skilled team in the Midwestern League. I anticipate that Crater will have the upper hand and win the game.

North Eugene (1-4) @ South Eugene (2-3)
Prediction: North Eugene def. South Eugene 32-24.
In the upcoming game in the Midwestern League, North Eugene and South Eugene will face off in an evenly matched contest. It is anticipated that both teams will finish week 6 with a record of 2-4, as I give North Eugene a slight edge. Last week, Quarterback Kelin Knutson Kelin Knutson 5'10" | 165 lbs | ATH North Eugene | 2024 State OR demonstrated an outstanding performance for North Eugene and is expected to play even better against South Eugene. Therefore, it is predicted that North Eugene will emerge victorious in this game.
