Back for an encore at the same location he won offensive MVP at a regional event some months prior, St. Anthony’s out of Long Island might have their next vertical threat in Luke Maurino. Despite being nearly 200lbs, Maurino is not heavy-footed and converts his mass into force, getting over the top well. I remarked that he tracks the ball deep extremely well.

Maurino has elite traits at the WR position and he proved it this past weekend. I liked his frame at 6’0″ 190-pounds, as he is an elite force as a pass catcher. He holds two offers currently from UMass and Syracuse. Maurino has serious skills and given his tape and frame has serious potential to be the top prospect in New York’s 2030 class.

. The talented WR will attend St. Anthony’s this fall, and be a key piece as they hunt for a Catholic League Championship. He attacked balls in drills, and made good use of his hands in 1v1 reps. He has outstanding range and body control which I was impressed with during Endzone Fade Reps. Maurino is a prospect who might have the highest ceiling in the state.

- The Future Friar, checked in wearing #132 for the event, and had the #2 Pro Shuttle time at 4.38, and the #2 broad jump at 9’7″.
Maurino was a strong pass catcher who gained quick separation, attacked balls in drills, and made good use of his hands in 1v1 reps. He has outstanding range and body control which I was impressed with during Endzone Fade Reps.

Luke Maurino is a complete talent at the wide receiver position and with his outstanding size, he is super difficult for defensive backs to defend on the outside. He is a mismatch at his position, and he has good hands to go along with it. Keep notepads, iPads, phones, and eyes open and ready because he is one you are going to want to see at the “RIZE” in New Jersey!

Gonna start here by talking about the overall offensive MVP of the day. One of the things that sticks out to me, and college recruiters, most when projecting athletes at the next level is body type, muscle, and frame. Luke’s got a super impressive frame at his age at 6’1, and he’s all muscle. He’s a super lean kid. He would not look out of place on a college practice field. Another thing that projects particularly well is his arms, he’s super long. He’s not just projection and measurables though, he’s got bounce, he’s got speed to run away from DBs, he effectively tracks the ball in the air. He put on a show in one on ones, I’m excited to see where he goes from here, I believe he is definitely a receiver rather than LB.

The pipeline of MVPs from the Prep Redzone Next Middle School Exposure Camps to perennial Top-10 New York program, St. Anthony’s, is alive and well. Maurino was “special” throughout the camp. Shaking hands with him, it was obvious he was a different cat. Big, strong hand kids. Dominated for most the of the camp, yet didn’t say a word and carried himself with a silent, confident swagger.
His MVP selection puts him in the company of former and current St. Anthony Friar greats:
