About Lej’end
Expert Analysis
Matt Morrow | Prep Redzone Scout
Lej’end remains one of my favorite players, and I still believe he’s underrated, as he’s been nothing but a fast-tackling machine for the Bulldogs throughout his career. Last season, as an All-Conference performer, he had 124 total tackles and 15 tackles for loss on defense for the Bulldogs. Lej’end plays best in space and uses his speed and instincts to get to the ball quickly, and tackles well in space against ball carriers. Early offers from Troy and East Carolina highlight Lej’end’s potential, and he’s coming into a big junior season where he can jump on even more recruiting radars.

One of several elite linebacker prospects in the 2028 class, Lockwood followed up his impressive freshman campaign with an equally efficient sophomore season. This year, he played a bit closer to the line and made several big plays in the backfield. We’ve seen him several times in both game and camp settings, and we’re comfortable projecting him as a clear Power Four linebacker.

Lej’end looked as smooth as he always does, going through drills showing his speed and athletic ability well. He is coming off a big season at Butler like Matthew, achieving 100 total tackles on the season with double-digit tackles for loss as well. With two early offers from Division 1 schools, I’m eager to see how he continues to grow and develop this offseason, going into his junior year.

I would bet that Lej’end probably ended up with double-digit tackles in this game, because that’s all I kept hearing when the Bulldogs were on defense. Even though he is a sophomore, Lej’end will have to step up and be a defensive leader this season. Saturday Night was a good start. I liked his speed and ability to scrape to make tackles in the run game, especially.

I recently saw Lej’end at the CFI Carolinas MEGA Showcase, and his performance was impressive. He is a fast off-ball linebacker who picked up some early offers. I think another strong performance here should move him up on some boards and potentially get him a couple more offers to add to his current recruiting status.

Our highest rated 2028 linebacker came and did very well, showing his skills as an off-ball linebacker and a tackling machine on film. Lej’end has some early Division 1 offers and his overall speed and quickness were impressive to see up close, and backup what I saw when seeing him live late last season. Lej’end ‘s competitive spirit also showed a future defensive leader as well, a promising sign for such a talented young man overall.

Lockwood has a chance to end up as a top-five overall prospect in this class, and he proved why on the field in 2024. He’s best as an off-ball linebacker, but made an impact as a blitzer too, with seven sacks as a freshman. He came close to hitting triple-digits in tackles and even without elite size, he plays like a future Power Four prospect. Let’s see how he develops so we can figure out just how high his ceiling can be.

Lej’end had a great freshman season for the Bulldogs, bringing some force and speed to a young defense. In watching him live, I liked how Lej’end flowed to the football and showed the ability to run plays down that went away from him in general. Lej’end has picked up early offers from Troy and East Carolina, and should continue to see recruiting attention throughout the summer camp season.

Lockwood already looks like a potentially elite off-ball linebacker, with good size and 87 tackles as a freshman. He’s good in space and flashed as a blitzer, racking up seven sacks over the course of the season. He’s more of a speed guy than a true enforcer in the middle right now, but his strength should grow as he gets older and bigger.
