Levontae McNeil is one half of a dangerous defensive front tandem at Overhills, and his versatility makes him a problem to game-plan against. McNeil has the tools to impact the game from multiple alignments, possessing the strength to slide inside and battle in the trenches while also having the athleticism and burst to attack off the edge. That ability to move him around creates matchup problems and gives Overhills plenty of options up front. McNeil has a complete defensive skill set, and his combination of power, versatility, and disruptive ability makes him a legitimate next-level prospect whose stock continues to climb.
Levontae McNeil is one of the most intriguing defensive line prospects in the region. The 6-foot-4, 260-pound rising senior has the size, strength, and versatility to play either on the interior or off the edge for the Jaguars this season, and projects similarly at the next level. McNeil is a constant problem for opposing offenses, demanding double teams with his combination of power and explosiveness. Last season, he recorded 48 tackles and 14 tackles for loss, consistently disrupting plays behind the line of scrimmage. With Power 4 size and the ability to impact the game from multiple positions, McNeil has all the tools to be one of the top defensive prospects in the Sandhills Region.
McNeill moves remarkably well for a guy his size, so much so that he’s able to kick out to the edge in certain situations. His get-off is excellent, allowing him to beat offensive linemen to their spot. He’s aggressive once he gets in the backfield, and his lower sack numbers don’t tell the story of his disruption as a pass-rusher.
A massive edge rusher, McNeil was part of a devastating Overhills pass rush last season. Now, he’s the leading returner and I’m looking forward to getting a better look at him as a junior. He could grow into an interior defender, but he’s thriving off the edge.
