Expert Analysis

Landen is number 1 in this ranking for a couple of reasons. One is the fact that he’s been on varsity since his freshman year and has been a major contributor to the success JM Robinson has had on the field. Another reason is his positional versatility – we have him listed as an EDGE for evaluation purposes, but Landen can play inside at defensive tackle with his size at 6’3 and 240 pounds. From a recruiting perspective, Landen has racked up multiple offers already, holding them from the following college football programs: East Carolina, Virginia Tech, Troy, Duke, Charlotte, and Old Dominion.

Landen scored the only touchdown of the game for the Bulldogs on a nice tight end dump play off of playaction down near the goalline. But I also thought that Landen was active at his EDGE position, and it looks like he’s stronger and quicker overall. I expect once Landen gets into conference and classification play, he’s going to be dominant this season.

Harding was on our radar early, but even we were incredibly impressed with his productive freshman season. Harding led the state in sacks among freshmen, racking up eight on the season. Harding played mostly as a 3-4 defensive end, so he may develop into a future defensive tackle. He’s just so quick that we like him on the edge. He’s powerful and often has to be double-teamed already, freeing space for other defensive players.

When I saw Landen play live, I was shocked to learn that he was a freshman, because from the way he looks physically and plays with real aggression, you just simply don’t see that from a prospect so young. Landen was an important piece of a very good team that made the 3rd round of the state playoffs this past season. Landen currently has offers from East Carolina, Virginia Tech, and Troy and should honestly have more in my opinion. Landen made game-changing plays in a 2nd round playoff game, showing excellent strength and hand usage at the point of attack in the running game. Landen also showed a nice swim move, which led to a sack/fumble, which was recovered for a touchdown by the Bulldog defense. Landen also played some tight end primarily as a blocker on offense. I’m excited for his future.

Head Coach Jason Seidel highlighted Landen in a conversation about players who played well overall for their team last night. Landen was a physical presence on the defensive line for the Bulldogs, which never allowed the Mountaineers offense to find any consistent footing in moving the football. The defensive line and Landen didn’t get pushed off of the football and also were able to find a good pass rush to keep the Mountaineers off balance.

– Played for the 13u NC Giants this year at AYF Nationals.
– Tall, bigger kid who comes with a ton of athleticism for his size. Was actually a short yardage running back during the year.
– While he can run the ball, to me his future is as a defensive lineman. A nice mixture of size, agility and quickness, he could be an ideal 3-4 defensive end. Then again, depending on how he grows, I could see a world with him as a tight end.
