Coming over from Northwest Cabarrus High School, Dom is a special player. As a freshman last season, Dom made some big game-impacting plays as a defensive back, earning All-Conference honors and showing some excellent athleticism and speed, especially for such a young player. We have him ranked highly here at Prep Redzone North Carolina for those reasons. It’s VERY rare to see an All-Conference freshman as it is, but especially as a defensive back. College football programs have recognized that as well, as Dom has offers and interest already early in his career. Dom should definitely be an impact player for the Bulldogs this season as well.

Baker is one of the top players in the state, regardless of position. He moved over to Robinson this year after thriving at Northwest Cabarrus as a freshman. Given the state of the Bulldogs’ backfield, I think he’ll primarily live on the defensive side of the ball, where his coverage skills are evident. I’m not sure if he’ll ultimately end up as a safety or a corner, but his versatility is key at the high school level.

Baker was the biggest riser in our winter rankings update, moving from just inside the Top 25 all the way up to 14th. He’s a playmaker on both sides of the ball, and that’s evidenced by the game-changing plays he made as a slot corner and how Northwest Cabarrus used him on offense. He’s physical and athletic, a guy you want the offense targeting if you’re a defensive coordinator, and a guy you want to have the ball with the game on the line on offense.

Baker has a bright future as a physical cover corner. He’s succeeded on both sides of the ball this year, as a gadget guy offensively and a promising corner defensively. His ball skills are impressive, and with a bit more weight, he’ll really be able to be left on an island with bigger receivers. His technical ability is obvious on film, and the speed and fluidity in his lower body suggest he’s only going to get better.

When Baker competed at the CFI Showcase Camp earlier this summer, Matt Morrow was impressed with him as a quarterback. However, I think his biggest impact could be as a corner, at least in the short term. He has excellent movement skills, especially in tight spaces, which shows as a slot corner and with his pocket presence as a quarterback. He’s already caught our attention and we’re looking forward to watching him develop.
