led Corona del Sol in tackles in Friday night’s high-scoring win over Desert Vista. With 16 total tackles, he kept the running game in check nearly single-handedly. To make his presence felt in the passing game, he got his hands on a pass and also got another quarterback pressure. Easily getting into the backfield, Abril’s physicality really disrupted the offense’s timing all night. His quick feet allowed him to fill gaps and meet running backs in the hole, often driving them back for minimal gains. With his relentless motor and instinctive play, Abril has emerged as a dominating defender.

played a great game for his team on the defensive side of the ball. Recording a plethora of tackles on the night and a TFL, Abril was putting his talent on display at the linebacker position. His instincts are sound as he reads his keys and accelerates downhill, whether through a gap or scrapping over the top outside. His open-field tackling is terrific, working with the correct leverage and wrapping up to get the ball carrier down. Abril plays textbook defense, and his team will need his defensive talents in these late stages of the season.

was a real force against the run on Friday night. Facing off against a talented backfield, Abril did a nice job of using his strength to quickly get rid of his blocks and find the ball. A physical linebacker who really seemed to set the tone for this defense, Abril still has the speed to keep with slot receivers over the middle. Finishing this matchup as Corona del Sol’s leading tackler, (tied for game-leading as well) he added two tackles for loss, a sack, and a fumble recovery.
