Oakland headlines the Northfield defense and continues to prove why he’s one of Minnesota’s most dominant linemen. Long, strong, and active, he’s playing unblockable football through the first stretch of the season. At 6-foot-5, 225 pounds, Oakland pairs college-ready length with elite get-off, exploding off the line before most blockers can react. His first step is consistently the fastest on the field, allowing him to collapse pockets and chase plays down from the backside. Over his past two games, Oakland has posted 1.5 sacks, 5.5 tackles for loss, and 12 total tackles. He’s also disrupted throwing lanes with three batted passes, caught four balls for 50 yards on offense, and forced five holding penalties as blockers struggled to contain his length and power. His ability to disengage and redirect makes him equally effective against the run and pass. Oakland converts speed to power effortlessly and stays disciplined in pursuit, maintaining leverage while still playing with violence. As an SDSU commit, he brings leadership and professionalism that set the tone for Northfield’s front and elevate everyone around him.

Football #15/Basketball #27
Oakland is a two-way player for the Raiders. He runs good routes as a receiver and uses his size well to position his body. On deep balls and underneath, he positions himself in ways the defender can’t make plays. On defense, Oakland is a dangerous edge rusher. He is quick off the ball and is crafty with his footwork. The junior is able to get blockers to over-commit one way before cutting sharply to the inside to beat his man. He has the speed to get the corner but is athletic enough to adjust his rush route, drop into coverage, and make plays on the ball. On the basketball court, Oakland is a double-double waiting to happen. As a junior, his season high on the scoreboard was 31 points. His role has only expanded from there, where he averages 22 points and eight rebounds a game.

went from a 6’3, 185 lb. sophomore and mysterious multi-sport prospect with no film and only 14 tackles and a PBU to a legitimate Division 1 EDGE prospect all in the matter of one offseason. Although it’s unverified, Oakland has shot up to around 6’4.5″, 210 lbs., looking big and long on film with a lot of room to fill in and a fitting skillset for rushing the passer. Owning a high-level basketball background, an indicator of elite and must-have athleticism in Minnesota multi-sporters, Oakland has been averaging 22.1 PPG, 8.3 RPG, 3.8 APG, and 2.4 SPG on the hardcourt with the Raiders, impressive numbers to say the least, and the size that lends itself to scoring buckets in basketball makes him a premium recruiting target on the gridiron as well.
His recruitment picked up early in the 2024 season, as local Missouri Valley schools caught wind of his glow-up and gameday invites started going out. North Dakota, SDSU, Northern Illinois, Iowa State, and Minnesota got visits, and the likes of Kansas, UNI, UND, South Dakota, and NDSU visited Northfield, and the Gophers also sent out a prestigious Junior Day invite for their #ROW26 class. If the athleticism can size can be verified and match the high upside and intrigue that is obvious in his junior day, he’s a no-doubt D1 prospect.
Oakland reports a 4.30 lasered shuttle, 34″ vertical, and 445 lb. squat, numbers I would love to confirm sooner rather than late, and recorded decent production on both sides of the ball, posting 26 catches for 300 yards and 3 TDs along with 31 tackles, 11 TFLs, 5 sacks, 8 PBUs, 2 FF, 2 INT, and a defensive TD for good measure. The 6’5, 210 lber. is comfortable and effective both as a pass rusher and out in space and in the perimeter reading quick game and making plays from sideline to sideline, but primarily works as standup EDGE who can rush from as far as a WIDE9 alignment but mostly as a 5T. Oakland shows twitchy and powerful inside moves, either at the snap or at the top of the arch, and can hammer the QB when he gets home, especially unimpeded. He can unlock his hips, his strong hands help him shock and shed blockers at the LOS, and he owns noticeable and impressive closing speed and overall speed for his size. Can run down ball carriers from the backside of the play and get into RBs and QBs hips before they can react. The 6’5 EDGE shows awareness and instincts when he gets to the backfield, pulling the trigger on either run or pass and recognizing when he can’t get there to stick his arm into passing lanes, trigger on the football, and tip passes for incompletions (8 PBUs) or big TFLs if the receiver can haul it in. He even tipped a pass to himself and scored on an electric individual effort and pick six. Plus, he posted some huge and crushing hits throughout his 2024 film and surely made an impression on opposing QBs from his edge spot, both in-game and during the week’s preparation.
As a TE, Oakland flexes out into the slot and strikes a large, fast-moving target who can turn it upfield after the catch and burn pursuers with his speed, owning a big catch radius that helps him make catches in traffic and snag the rock out of the air like you’d hope for a basketball player of his caliber. Looks smooth and vertically explosive when he high points the football and makes plays on the ball in the air, and can recognize when to sit down in zone coverage and pull in catches through tight and contested coverage.

. A long-time ranked athlete who PRzMN has had on our radar since early in his freshman year, now-6’5, 215 lb. Oakland is also a talented hooper who runs with MN Fury on the AAU circuit. He didn’t update any tape from his 2023 sophomore season and didn’t have much for stats, so I honestly wasn’t sure how interested or invested Oakland was in playing football at the next level. However, I couldn’t have been more wrong, and Oakland has had a breakout junior season that has catapulted him into the D1 recruiting sphere out of Minnesota. Great size that fits into his small forward/wing skillset on the hardcourt, lots of length that can add weight at the next level, and a two-way contributor who plays WR, TE, OLB, and TE and also competes in track & field. In 2024, Oakland posted 26 receptions for 300 yards and 3 TDs, as well as 11 TFLs, 5 sacks, 8 PBUs, 2 FF, 2 INT, and one defensive TD for some impressive production that certainly caught the eye of college programs. North Dakota hit him up with a gameday invite in early September, followed by South Dakota State and DIIs Augustana and MSU-Moorhead. Oakland made the trek to Grand Forks to watch UND a couple weekends ago, so keep an eye on the Fighting Hawks in this budding recruitment out of Southern Minnesota.
Oakland is a standup EDGE rusher with lateral quickness and can beat blockers with sudden inside moves and some serious speed off the edge, both as a blitzer and when running down ball carriers from the backside of the LOS. He displayed noticeable pop and can win 1v1 reps with power rushes, sometimes just off initial contact and can shed blocks, rip, and disengage off opponents thanks to his strong and active hands. Plus, he’s a physical tackler who rocked some QBs in 2024 as a blitzer. Oakland is long and instinctive enough to sniff out passing lanes and get his arms up into traffic to knock down passes – hence the 8 PBUs, and he tipped one of those PBUs to himself and took it back for six in 2024. That speed at 6’5, 215 created splash plays on offense, and he owns a big catch radius and can climb the ladder and high-point the rock in traffic as a TE/WR. I think he’s best suited to play EDGE at the next level, where he’s instinctive, free flowing and does a good job of processing, identifying, and adjusting to an offenses play rep to rep, aided by his balanced skillset and functional athleticism at 6’5, 215 that helps him make plays in a variety of different scenarios. I’d keep an eye on him and various Missouri Valley suitors this offseason.
