Chappell is a consistent disruptor off the edge at 6’2” 240 lbs. playing with a combination of intelligence, physicality, and technique. He shows excellent play recognition, staying disciplined setting the edge and identifying misdirection and screens. His hands are a standout trait – fast, violent, and purposeful – allowing him to quickly disengage from blockers and create separation to make plays. As a pass rusher and run stopper, he maintains low pad level and brings power through his hands and hips, making him a strong and reliable tackler. As a pass rusher, he shows a quick first step and the ability to win with both speed and power moves, applying steady pressure off the edge and collapsing the pocket when needed. His football IQ shows in how he sets the edge, times his rush, and adjust mid-play to react to run/pass. Brings value as a three-down defensive lineman who can impact both phases of the game.

There’s something to be said about a guy who just does his job — and does it well — on every snap. That’s Josh Chappell. He’s out there reading the quarterback, setting the edge, and finding ways to make an impact. One of the biggest things that stands out is his ability to get his hands in passing lanes. It’s not just timing — it’s instincts and awareness, and it’s no fluke. You see it on film again and again. He knows when to sit back, when to shoot, and when to disrupt. Physically, he’s not maxed out yet, and there’s still room to grow when it comes to burst and foot speed. But the base of his game is rock solid. Coaches know they can trust him to hold his side down and make smart decisions. That kind of consistency is rare, and it gives him a real edge — literally and figuratively. There’s value in reliability, and Chappell brings that in spades.

2026 Defensive Lineman Joshua Chappell Joshua Chappell 6'2" | 230 lbs | DL Williams Field | 2026 State AZ had himself a day at the showcase. At a solid 6’2 230lbs, he showed off tons of versatility in his speed rush. His best trait is his burst, as he can fire past defenders immediately with insane explosiveness and speed. His bend around the edge is great, showing good flexibility and balance when working around tackles. He favors a chop move when rushing outside to bat the offensive lineman hands down and turn the corner. He also has a nice counter move to the inside with a hesitation move if the lineman is overplaying him to the edge. Look out for Chappell on the outside next season to really take off as one of the state’s best speed rushers.

Chappell is a violent defender off the edge that has the potential and upside to shoot up rankings and recruiting boards as he develops. He’s a strong 6’2” 230 lbs. with high level speed and athleticism that could translate to multiple positions at the college level. He’s constantly attacking and redirecting to the ball with great effort and burst to close in pursuit. He overwhelms opponents with his initial quickness off the LOS and variation of moves. He’s got good hand usage to maintain separation from blockers and then disengage to locate the ball carrier. Good natural strength at the POA that brings his feet and hips through contact. Plays balanced and with good pad level to gain leverage and take on blockers in the lane. Finished his junior season with 7.5 sacks, 10.5 TFL, and 40 total tackles. One to watch.
