at the tight end and defensive end position. Last season, Mcclain emerged as a safety blanket for the passing game at tight end. He would finish the season third on the team in receiving with over 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns. But it was defensively that Mcclain really provided an impact. He was among the team leaders in tackles, finishing the year with over 70 on the season. The Cougars have several two-way players to watch this season and Mcclain might be a guy that’s flying under the radar right now. He shouldn’t be and we are looking forward to seeing his production this fall.

earlier this month during our Friday Film Review series. And we said it on that breakdown, Mcclain looks like a linebacker at the next level. He came out on Sunday and participated in drills and competition at the linebacker position. And specifically in the competition part of the camp, Mcclain absolutely shined. He did such a good job going against running backs in passing situations. Mcclain really impressed us on film with his ability to get down hill and lay the wood. But in a camp setting, he couldn’t showcase his ability to hit but it doesn’t matter. We already know he can and we got to see elements of his game that make him an intriguing prospect to watch.

had a breakout season for NRC on both sides of the ball. When we put on the junior film, we weren’t sure where to project him position-wise. He’s currently listed as an athlete but after watching the tape, he looks like a defensive prospect. As a junior, Mcclain would line up at tight end and defensive end for North Rock Creek. On defense, he’s an absolute monster coming off the edge. We really liked to see versatility in his game on the defensive side of the ball. He was just as comfortable putting his hand in the dirt as he is in a standing stance. And with that, comes a deep bag of moves to beat opposing offensive linemen. He could beat opponents with a variety of moves and between that, his versatility and a motor that doesn’t seem to slow down, we like Mcclain on defense. On offense, Mcclain was impressive at the tight end position and showcased that athleticism but still looked like that defensive monster that happened to play offense. Physically, he might project to being more of a linebacker in college.Access all of Prep Redzone

Jordan McClain Jr. was impressive, showing off the ability to dominate in the L-Drill to go along with his 6’0 frame. His times were the best out of any of the defensive linemen. His first attempt was the best, being 7.3. His second attempt was slightly worse, coming down to 7.36. It was definitely something remarkable.

McClain is from the 2025 class who stands in at 6’1″ and weighs in around 210 pounds. McClain is from Shawnee and is an edge rusher who utilizes his speed off the edge. McClain had a good camp who showed he has a good first step off the ball. He is quick once the offensive lineman moves and can get in the backfield in a hurry. After a few reps of beating his lineman to the edge he countered it with his speed. He set up using this move by beating his opponent off the edge and then quickly would come underneath the lineman. I would like to see more techniques used with McClain as he continues to work on his craft as an edge rusher.
