An athletic cornerback with excellent ball skills, consistently tracking and securing interceptions. His reaction time and awareness make him a threat in coverage. Though not the fastest, his fluidity and positioning allow him to make up ground quickly. Above-average tackling skills further enhance his value, often stepping up as a reliable tackler in run support. A solid, versatile defender.
Jet was someone I got my eyes on in their lone 2024 playoff game vs Olentangy Orange. He made an immediate impression, intercepting the ball in their red zone in the first quarter. Jet plays physically for his size. He lines up on the boundary and as a nickel defender. He does well in zone coverage, baiting the quarterback’s eyes, and can shift his hips to explode to make a play on the ball. Starting as a sophomore, Jet had a great start to his young career, and I want to see if he develops as I believe he can.
Olentangy has been known for a high-octane passing offense over the last few years and while that may be true, I think it’s overshadowed what has been a really good defense. Cornelius had a strong sophomore campaign for the Braves. Jett is a smooth athlete, and with a name like Jet it should come as no surprise that he can run. When you watch the film you see a patient comfortable corner who just runs the route of the receiver. He’s comfortable in press or off coverage. When the ball is in the air, he does a great job of playing the ball rather than the man. Due to his short space quickness and good feet I like him a little more as a slot corner at the next level who can also play outside.
Cornelius was one of the prospects I wanted to watch the most heading into Friday, and he didn’t disappoint. Cornelius would come down with an interception from the opening drive for Orange and set the tone for his defense that shutout Orange in the first half. Cornelius has great eyes for a DB and shows an intelligence of a star senior as a sophomore. His hip flexibility is impressive, and his athleticism matched with his ball-hawking ability will boost Cornelius up our rankings in the coming seasons.
