. from Villa Angela St. Joseph is a strong all-around linebacker who can drop in coverage, make plays on the ball, and is a stout run defender who can tackle in space. Very good safety/outside linebacker prospect who doesn’t overpursue, can come to balance in space and wrap up. Good downhill hitter who takes great angles to the ball, flashes a high motor and good pursuit. He gave Kent State his verbal commitment on Father’s Day.

Black is the classic hybrid linebacker. He’s very comfortable covering in space or in man coverage. In man he mirrors well and makes strong breaks on the ball. In the run game he has the size and speed to be an impact player.

Starting SAM linebacker. Strong OLB prospect who is strong v. the run, but also has the ability to cover the pass and carry routes against some top tight end recruits. Coaches believe he will add two inches of height and 30 more pounds ahead of next season. Has a chance to be a big-time player.

The first thing you notice with Black is his frame. The look test is real, and Jerry passes it with flying colors. While he could easily end up on the defensive side of the ball at the next level, for now we’ll leave him as a big receiver who will probably grow into a hybrid tight end. Black’s combination of size and athleticism is impressive. He has good footwork off the line of scrimmage, and he has the bend and explosiveness to create separation. He already has the strength and build to physically overwhelm defensive backs and will be speed and athleticism mismatch for bigger backs or linebackers. Black just needs to continue to work on developing his route running ability as he continues to grow and fill out. While Jerry is still on the raw size I’m very bullish on his future based on the top end physical traits he owns. I could very easily see his recruiting process take off this offseason.
