James Monaghan brings an ideal size at 6’5” and pairs it with a skill set that translates well to the next level. He is comfortable working through progressions but can also extend plays by escaping pressure and creating outside the pocket. Monaghan’s deep ball stands out, consistently hitting receivers in stride with touch and accuracy. His ability to stretch the field vertically forces defenses to respect every blade of grass. Solid size, length, and frame at 6’4” 205 lbs. with the skillset to match for the high upside QB out of Mater East. Combines his natural ability as a passer with his technical skills and mechanics to be productive and efficient. Shows clean footwork that stays in rhythm throughout his drop back and to his delivery, landing with a well-balanced throwing platform that boosts his accuracy to all areas of the field. Flashes a live arm with a smooth release capable of driving the ball with velocity at the short/intermediate levels or throwing with touch/trajectory downfield. Knows when to mix up speeds to fit it in a window and throw a catchable ball. Shows he can extend the play with his legs and move the pocket to maintain accuracy throwing on the run to either direction. Picked up his initial collegiate offer from Sacramento State over the summer but should see his recruiting stock on the rise going forward.

Monaghan just picked up his first offer from Sacramento St. after a strong camp performance this week. The #2-QB in Nevada’s 2026 class showed promising upside in his junior season and has continued to flash great development this offseason to pair with the strong physical traits he possesses. Great size/frame at 6’4″/185, throws off a wide base, and gets the ball out with a tight release. Now at Mater East, look for Monaghan to put together a breakout junior season in the fall.

Monaghan transferred to Mater East this offseason after spending last season as the backup QB for the 5A D-III state champs, Centennial. He offers good physical tools at 6’4″/185 with a strong arm and workable mobility around the pocket. Operates with solid mechanics and shows good accuracy into tight windows. Monaghan will come into his junior season with a strong chance of earning the starting role for Mater East in the fall.
