Coming off of an injury, James moved incredibly well all day long. He was one of only 2 athletes to be top 10 in every category. He had the 2nd best shuttle with a 4.40, as well as the 3rd best L-Drill, 6th best broad jump and a 4.72 40 time, good for 9th. A well rounded performance that jumped off the page to me.
James is back from injury, and he went out and balled right from the start. The lateral quickness was there, the acceleration and top end speed were there as well. He made cuts with ease and looked overall explosive. Heading into his senior year, I’m definitely expecting him to be one of the top backs in the OAA after yesterday’s performance.
A closer look at James’ highlights against Northville.
James does his job. Tape kicks off with an off-tackle run. Follows his blocks, gets what he can, and earns a chunk play. Second, looks like the same play, but James bounces it outside, lays a stiff arm, and continues down the sideline.
James is a solid “slashing” running back. Not going to kill you in the open field, but has good, subtle moves in traffic and can break tackles.
James showed flashes. Inside the tackles, James did a good job navigating traffic and earning positive yards. The last-minute touchdown to nearly tie the game comes to mind regarding good inside runs. Keep repping contact balance, and he’ll be a very productive back in the OAA Red this season. Excited to see James’ midseason tape once the time comes around.
James has good JV tape, and tested pretty dang well at our last Prep Redzone Camp.
James ran a 4.7 40 at our camp, and that’s enough to burn most JV defenses. That’s exactly what he did last season. On several occasions, James exposed poor pursuit angles. I also think James has good vision for a 2027 prospect. I especially like that he doesn’t waste much time dancing in the open field- he’s a north-south runner. A good offseason improving in speed, balance, and power, James has the chance to be a great Varsity football player this Fall.
