had one of the more important takeaways of the day against Western Christian. Lining up in the middle of the field as a spy, Gilbert read the quarterback’s eyes, faded to his left and snagged a pick over the middle to flip the field.
He took the pick back 20 yards and set up a score for the Falcons, and he added four tackles against the Wolf Pack.

finished second in tackling last season and is the leading returner after posting 49 last season. A rangy linebacker that can make tackles in the open field, Gilbert will be one of the most pivotal players on the OABCIG defense this season. He also grabbed two picks, one returned for a touchdown in 2024.
As a receiver, the No. 20 athlete in Iowa is adept at finding holes in the zone for catches, but can also make some difficult catches in traffic. Hey may not have been QB, Brysen Kolar’s go-to target last season, but Gilbert has hands that can be trusted over the middle, as he’s not afraid to take a hit to maintain the catch. He caught 23 passes for 435 yards and a score last fall.

is an interesting prospect who was an electric two-way contributor. The Falcon’s sophomore capped off last season with 27 receptions, 366 receiving yards, five receiving touchdowns, 24.5 tackles, two fumble recoveries, and two interceptions (one returned for a TD). When watching Jack’s tape I couldn’t help but think that he never seems out of position whether he’s on offense or defense. As a receiver, he does an excellent job slipping into open windows for his QB to find him, especially over the middle of the field and on intermediate routes. Jack also has the toughness to hang on to the ball through contact and can tuck the ball and rumble his way upfield for extra yardage. On defense, Gilbert fills his assignments very well, whether it be pass coverage or rushing the passer. He displayed nice fluidity in coverage with the ability to flip his hips and change direction quickly to break on the ball. Gilbert plays with a mean, physical edge to his game when he’s allowed to pin his ears back to do some head-hunting. Great tackler. Most definitely a player who should be on the ranked list!
