Mounds View High School’s Godson Rufus-Okomhanru Godson Rufus-Okomhanru 5'11" | 170 lbs | ATH Mounds View | 2026 State MN is easily in contention for the most electric junior highlight tape in the Great State of Minnesota’s 2026 class. The fun can in large part be traced back to the Shoreview products high-end speed, which was on full display during the 2024 outdoor track season last school year. Rufus-Okomhanru posted an 11.16 and 11.15 100M times as well as a 22.07 200M sprint to sweeten the pot. His junior season went so well that the Mighty North Dakota State Bison – arguably the best recruiters of Minnesota talent in the land – offered the junior gameday visit in early November. Rufus-Okomhanru was one of only two Minnesotans to earn an offer from NDSU this school year, and one of only a handful of juniors to earn an NDSU offer during their 2024 season, so I hope you guys realize how confident the FCS heavyweight feels about the Mounds View athlete’s talent and upside. A WR/RB/OLB for the Mustangs, the 6′, 180 lber. twitch, burst, fluidity, top-end speed stand out the most on tape.
He opens his clip with a beautiful rep of him sticking, planting, and getting open in the redzone before making an eye-catching full extension to perfectly high-point a fade route through a waiting DB’s outstretched arms in an impressive display of body control. Rufus-Okomhanru is a smooth, fluid, effortless ball carrier and cutter who shows sudden COD ability. He can break at top speed, accelerate out of his cuts, and easily make free defenders at the second and third levels of the defense. He was a huge part of Mounds View’s excellent 2024 season, which saw them nearly upset Shakopee 24-17 in the state quarters to cap off an 8-3 season in Minnesota’s largest football classification. The 180 lber. took a kick back for six against Woodbury, making it look as easy as a walk in the park for you and me. Defenders never know where he’s going to cut to, and he can change direction so suddenly and smoothly without losing speed that it barely looks like he slowed down. His top-end speed can easily pull away from 6A defenders and finish runs for six once he takes space, and he’s a big play wideout who pulled off some electric catches in 2024, especially through tight coverage and multiple defenders draped all over him. He wins at the top of the route and can take the top off the defense, is surehanded, and shows good contact balance after the catch. Rufus-Okomhanru should continue to stay fruitful on the recruiting trail in 2025, as North Dakota, NDSU, Wyoming, Montana State, Boston College, Columbia, and Minnesota have all stopped in to see the junior, and he’s sure to turn some heads during this upcoming track season. The big question is where do you put the playmaker at the next level position-wise, but with verified athletic data backing up the explosive tape, it’s not the worst question to try and answer. You’ll be hearing more about the Mounds View junior this offseason!

Rufus-Okomhanru is the definition of an athlete. He was Mounds View’s leader in receiving yards and was 3rd on the team for rushing yards during his junior year. He snagged his first D1 offer from FCS powerhouse NDSU, and I suspect more will follow. His tape is often electric and has plenty of elite moments that showcase his incredible upside. His body control is phenomenal and paired with his impressive vert he’s a dangerous target, especially in the red zone. He’s a legit track athlete, and that speed is clear as day on his tape. He’s capable of dusting defenders when given the slightest bit of open space and is also a mean return man. Mounds View is going to be a problem next season and Rufus-Okomhanru is going to be a big part of that.

Someone is due for a rankings bump! After two years spent in the freshman and JV ranks for the Mounds View Mustangs, highlighted by some strong film and even better track times, Godson Rufus-Okomhanru Godson Rufus-Okomhanru 5'11" | 170 lbs | ATH Mounds View | 2026 State MN has burst onto the varsity and 2026 D1 recruiting scene like he has something to prove. Now a 6′, 180 lber. playing WR, OLB, and RB, Rufus-Okomhanru, with his 11.15 100M and 22.0 200M speed, has raced himself into some serious D1 looks, earning Northern Iowa and North Dakota State gameday visits in October thanks to his on-field play at the midseason point. He’s gaining some serious steam on the recruiting trail, and he should be, as he’s a three-phase contributor, multi-sporter, with big-time explosiveness and a hard-to-find fluidity that makes him very smooth and very fun to watch on film. He took a 99-yard kickoff return back to the house against Woodbury to highlight his explosive, big-play ability and is also a slippery, sudden ball carrier with great vision who seems to glide by opponents in the open field. He displays fluidity, sleek body control and play style, especially with the ball in-hand, and great speed that can take the ball to the house on any given play. Rufus-Okomhanru also demonstrates great ball skills, as he can fully extend and reel in tough catches, a big catch radius, strong hands, and noticeable body control in the air. He slips and floats by tackle attempts with impressive smoothness and ease, shows good contact balance, especially for his size, and accelerates out of his breaks and can cut at top speed, which helps him make free defenders miss in space. The 180 lber. is also a good route runner that can create separation at the top of the route and win contested catches. Rufus-Okomhanru is playing himself into a FCS scholarship of he keeps this up.

The word athlete describes Rufus-Okomhanru perfectly. Against Woodbury, the junior had 59 rushing yards one rushing TD, and an insane 99-yard kick return for a touchdown. We’re seeing a breakout season for Rufus-Okomhanru, and everyone should watch as his stock continues to rise with more great performances.

Onto the 2026s! Mounds View High School’s WR/OLB/ATH Godson Rufus-Okomhanru is a player I’ve been hearing great things about behind the scenes since he entered high school, and he’s providing some exciting data points to add to his resume as a football prospect, namely his track times, the best of which include an 11.35 100M (self-reported) and 22.89 200M, great foundations of speed as an underclassman. His sophomore track season isn’t even finished, so I have been and will continue to watch him closely this month.
On tape, he’s a very dynamic defender. Rufus-Okomhanru has a great rep of him blitzing off the edge and nearly finding paydirt before he retraces and steps right into a passing lane of an out-breaking TE, snagging the ball with one hand and taking it to the house, and the rest of his tape shows him blitzing with success, covering a significant amount of ground in run support, dropping into coverage, and using his play speed to impact his opponents run and pass games. He’s an instinctive defensive player with range, pursuit, and closing speed, and changes direction well and shows good acceleration out of a dead stop. I also like his speed as a blitzer, as well as how he attacks RBs in pass pro and makes them tuck their tails between their legs, his noticeable motor, and loose hips as a second-level defender. When he gets ahold of the rock, the 6′, 17o lber. is a fast, physical playmaker, and he made the most of his opportunities when he saw space. Looked like the best athlete on the field in his sophomore tape. Big year for Rufus-Okomhanru as a now-upperclassman.

One of a couple must-know Mounds View Mustangs 2026 standouts at this point, 5’11, 170 lber. Godson Rufus-Okomhanru Godson Rufus-Okomhanru 5'11" | 170 lbs | ATH Mounds View | 2026 State MN should really excite prospective college football programs with his eye-catching track times from his freshman year, which include a 11.35 100M and 22.89 200M. That’s an awesome indication of speed that is only going to improve as GRO grows, matures, and develops, and he’s got some juice on the gridiron to boot. As a WR, his speed really shows up when going vertical, as can eat up DB cushions and torch man coverage with ease. He also tracks and plays the ball well in the air, and shows a bit of ability to drop his hips at the top of the route. As an OLB, the speed impresses when he runs down plays from the backside of the LOS, but that’s not all he can do, as Rufus-Okomhanru defends the edge well and closes quickly, is physical when tackling and defeating blocks, and patient in coverage and does a good job of undercutting routes to make plays on the ball around the second level of the defense. For a speedster, I thought he’d be a offense-only guy, but he’s an impressive defensive prospect as well. Mounds View has a good one on their hands!
