The lone Minnestoan I had in my 2027 defensive line notebook at the UWEC Big Man MEGA Camp came from Mounds View’s Tyler Nelson. Tyler had the well-rounded mix of the speed you want to see off the edge with his get off and from the reps I watched, had solid working hands for his size and frame to win a handful of reps in pass-rush 1v1s. He’s showed too that since the fall season, he’s gotten more versatile by not just relying on his speed to get downhill into the backfield. Some nice growth to watch for in the 6A defensive trenches in Minnesota this fall for sure.

A 6A pass-rusher out of Mounds View and the MN 6A ranks, DE/EDGE Tyler Nelson Tyler Nelson 6'0" | 220 lbs | DL Mounds View | 2027 MN was an explosive, action-packed, albeit undersized standout from the class of 2027. With lead in his hands and a strong punch, a sled was no match for Nelson during drill work, and during 1v1 pass pro exercises, Nelson flashed a mean jab step and the consistent ability to beat OTs to their inside shoulder. Effective twitch wins came down the line as well.
