A QB that PRZMN is very excited about going into 2026, CDH’s Gavin Russell could hav a huge year at the helm of the Raiders‘ offense. Stepping into the shoes of 2025 MN Mr. Football finalist Izaak Johnson, Russell brings a different kind of skillset to the helm of CDH, and he’s a good athlete who was one of the best QBs at the recent PRZMN Spring Showcase. Also standout performance at the PRZMN Stock-Up Showcase this past winter as well.

This spring, he measured in at 6’1.5″, 177 lbs., with a 77″ wing and 9.75″ hands. Plus, as mentioned, he’s a good athlete who posted athletic times such as a 4.88 40, 4.48 shuttle, and 9’5 broad as a sophomore! Also hooped for CDH this winter, on the B squad for the Raiders.

Russell’s JV tape displayed a skinny, mobile but athletic non-varsity gunslinger who will will step up in the pocket and through pressure, after which his athleticism aides him with the ball in-hand, and he can also extend plays thanks to his athleticism. As a passer, he displays a good arm that can stretch the field vertically and with accuracy and touch, generate some impressive zip on the ball for his age, something we saw in-person at multiple exposure points this offseason. He’s also especially impressive when he can sling it off-platform with some mustard and is accurate to all three levels of the field. Can’t wait to see this new QB in action this fall!

Surely one of my personal favorite gunslingers on the afternoon at the Prep Redzone Minnesota Showcase was Cretin-Derham-Hall 2028 quarterback Gavin Russell Gavin Russell 6'2" | 180 lbs | QB Cretin-Derham Hall | 2028 State MN . It didn’t take long to establish based on the live eval, that this kid needed to be with the older group as I made that call quickly after watching a handful of Gavin’s reps in 1v1s. He’s a quarterback that impressed with his development from watching him a season ago especially with the poise he displayed in the pocket. He showed off a quarterback that is proficent on all three levels of the field and getting my eyes on some of his deeper throws from a touch perspective, really moved the needle for Gavin in my eyes. He’s had a dominant 7’s season thus far, and put up some impressing testing numbers too, logging a 4.88 on the laser 40s,, 4.48 in the pro agility, and a 6.85 in the L-drill which surely shows me how well Gavin can move outside of the pocket. Expecting Gavin to keep growing into summer at camps and into his fall season.

The heir apparent at 5A power Cretin-Derham Hall, 2028 QB Gavin Russell caught PRZMN’s attention throughout the Spring Showcase on Saturday. Measuring at nearly 6’2, 180 lbs., with 9.75″ hands, Russell flashed some athleticism and dual-threat capability, clocking a 4.88 laser 40, 4.48 shuttle, and 9’5″ broad. Russell was also impressive during drill work, showing velocity, accuracy, and a quick release from both traditional pocket passes as well as off-platform throws, and he really started cookin’ during 1v1s, showing off a booming arm that was throwing and completing some beautiful deep balls throughout competition. Russell was looking polished and poised at the PRZMN Spring Showcase going into his upperclassmen era at CDH. Keep an eye out for the Raiders, and Russell, this fall!

Russell was one of the more physically impressive QB prospects in attendance, standing half an inch over 6’1″ and weighing in just over 175 lbs, while also boasting a 77″ reach and 9.75″ hands. When it came to the testing, Russell was equally impressive. Russell touted a 4.88 40, a 4.48 pro-agility, an eye-catching 6.86 L-drill, and a great 9’5″ broad jump, and those last two tests he fell within the top 7 for the camp. During the throwing portion of the camp, he showed off fantastic command of the ball, and I loved his touch on intermediate and deep balls. He’s stepping into one of the most pass-heavy offenses in the state at Cretin-Derham Hall, so be on the lookout for Russell to thrive in that Raiders system next fall.
