It’s a bounce back week for Class A’s #3 Colcord as they face off with Class A’s #9 Stroud and both teams are looking to get their first win of the season after falling in week one. Senior quarterback Gabe Winfield Gabe Winfield 6'0" | 180 lbs | ATH Colcord | 2024 State OK and the Hornets stumbled last week when they faced off with Kansas and were stunned in the final seconds as the Comets scored the game-winning touchdown with less than 30 seconds to play. Winfield and the Hornets not only look to bounce back and get their first win of the season, but they want to play better overall. They lost to Kansas because they struggled with turnovers in week one and they can’t afford to do that again this week. They really took care of business last season in the meeting with Stroud but this is the top match-up in Class A this week. Both of these teams came into this season with high expectations. Neither team expected to start 0-2 but one of them will after Friday.

2024 quarterback and safety Gabe Winfield Gabe Winfield 6'0" | 180 lbs | ATH Colcord | 2024 State OK is the other part of the dynamic duo in the Colcord backfield and we cannot wait to see what he does for an encore this fall. Last season, Winfield was one of the more explosive and productive athletes in Class A. He threw for 2,400 yards and 35 touchdowns while completing nearly 65% of his passes. But he was also dangerous on the ground as he led the team in rushing with nearly 1,050 yards and would reach the end zone 22 times on the ground. We think the duo of Winfield and Mott in the Colcord backfield is going to be incredibly explosive. You throw in the fact that Winfield has an experienced and talented offensive line in front of him and the sky’s the limit. It seems crazy to think when you see some of his numbers from last fall but he could be even better.

Gabe Winfield Gabe Winfield 6'0" | 180 lbs | ATH Colcord | 2024 State OK is a 5’11 quarterback that had recorded the same time on both of his 40 yard dash attempts. His attempts were the third and fourth highest out of all quarterbacks, being 4.97. The reason that I chose him compared to the other players that had a quicker time is because he was the most consistent. Zyron Campbell recorded a 4.91 on his second attempt and Axel Erne recorded a 4.81 on his first attempt. Both of those guys had way above a 5.00 time on their other attempts. Winfield was by far the most consistent and that is why he is on this list. He looked solid on some of his other drills, as well.

Colcord might have been one of the surprise teams in 2022 but we really like them to contend for the gold ball this fall with all the talent they have returning. 2024 quarterback Gabe Winfield Gabe Winfield 6'0" | 180 lbs | ATH Colcord | 2024 State OK wasn’t the only Colcord standout to impress us on Sunday. Defensive lineman Khaleeal Penn Khaleeal Penn 6'2" | 305 lbs | DL Colcord | 2025 State OK and linebacker Cade Linn shined bright as well at their respective positions. Winfield put up some monster numbers last season as he threw for over 2,000 yards and ran for over 1,000 yards. He tossed over 30 touchdowns and ran for 20+ more scores. So he’s going to go into this fall as one of the top offensive weapons in Class A. Winfield really stood out to me when the quarterbacks started throwing on the run to either side of the field. And that makes sense considering how much he was on the move last season. After seeing all the production Winfield had last season, it was really beneficial to see the small school standout in person. He’s definitely a 2024 prospect to remember moving forward.
