Junior Bethea delivered one of the most complete performances in New Jersey this postseason. He pulled double duty as Cedar Creek’s quarterback and top safety in the win over Holmdel, scoring six touchdowns on offense. But what truly elevated his night were the two interceptions he made on defense.
Bethea is heading to Stony Brook as a defensive back, and he showed exactly why. His athleticism, sharp instincts, and ability to read the quarterback allowed him to flip possessions and halt Holmdel’s momentum. Every time the ball was in the air, he looked like the most dangerous player on the field.
His defensive playmaking has fueled Cedar Creek’s surge to the Group 2 state final and helped turn the Pirates into one of the hottest teams in South Jersey. Bethea will be counted on again, and based on his performance, Cedar Creek knows it can trust his ball skills and savvy to deliver when it matters most.

has all the tools to take a major leap in his senior year. The Stony Brook commit is a smooth, rangy athlete who excels in coverage, thanks to his ability to break on the ball and make plays at the catch point. With five interceptions last season, he’s already proven he can be a game-changer. If he sharpens his eye discipline and continues to grow as a ballhawk, Bethea has a real shot to lead New Jersey in interceptions this fall.

has committed to Stony Brook. At 6’1”, 185, he’s a versatile athlete who’s played quarterback, wide receiver, and corner. His explosiveness and two-way ability make him one of Jersey’s more underrated playmakers. This is a big get for the Seawolves.

for a minute now, he was always an enigma of sorts to me. For a while we had him listed as a quarterback. This trend continued for the first part of last year where Bethea held serve at the position, until inbound transfer

was eligible to play due to senior-year transfer rules after sitting behind Billy Smith. All this to say that although he was serviceable and functional as a high school quarterback, we did not like Bethea at quarterback nearly as much as we do now. Bethea’s athleticism will likely allow him to succeed at either wide receiver or safety – it will be a tough choice for some college coaches – since he has range, speed, and more polished skills than you would think for a player who is asked to do so much.

is a prospect I have know about for a while not, but was not exactly sure what I thought of him. Initially he was evaluated and thought upon as a quarterback; however, that appears to have just been out of necessity rather than being the long term plan. Once Bethea was moved off that spot, his game, and also his ranking, shot up. As a safety Bethea has quite a bit of range, easily making plays on poorly thrown balls; conversely, as a receiver he uses his hands to catch it and his hands appear to be strong. He moves exceptionally well, as we see Bethea make people miss without offering any particularly hard cuts. When a receiver, he has a burst coming off of the line and can secure the ball through contact with assurance. Additionally, when Bethea has the ball in his hands he runs with a forward lean when needed to get cheap yardage. Closing out, on defense he does a nice job getting his hands on receivers to disrupt timing and their route, while also appearing very instinctual in pass defense.

is a name that deserves attention. Standing at 6’0”, 175 pounds, he’s a true athlete who excels on both sides of the ball. As a wide receiver, Bethea’s ball skills are impressive. Once the ball is in his hands, his speed, explosiveness, and acceleration in the open field make him a nightmare for defenders.
His ability to find open spaces in zone coverage and adjust during scramble drills sets him apart even more. He consistently creates separation, making him a quarterback’s dream target. On the defensive side, Bethea shines at safety. His ball-tracking ability is elite, and his hands allow him to finish plays with interceptions. He’s proven to be a ball hawk with over six interceptions this past season. His athleticism suggests he could thrive at either corner or safety.
Recently, Bethea received his second Division I offer from the University of New Hampshire. As more schools review his tape, his versatility and playmaking ability will undoubtedly place him on the radar of additional Power Four programs.
