Ethan Johnson Ethan Johnson 6'0" | 215 lbs | LB Shades Valley | 2024 State AL , one of Shades Valley’s destructive linebackers, had one of the best individual seasons in the state for a defensive player this fall-he was able to rack up a ton of great plays against some of the top offenses in the state on a weekly basis. On the season, Johnson was absolutely everywhere on the field- he ended up with a staggering 155 total tackles (18 for loss) 8 sacks, 1 interception, 5 forced fumbles, and 3 fumble recoveries. As the stats show, Johnson was an absolute game wrecker all season long- he’s a player you can truly give any assignment- he provides good coverage, run support, and pressure on the quarterback on every snap as he plays with a ton of effort. Deservedly, Johnson has picked up a good bit of attention from the next level and  lists offers from Appalachian State, Marshall, Coastal Carolina, and more. Keep an eye on him as we head towards December, it’ll be exciting to see where he ends up committing!

His footwork is impeccable in multiple phases of the game. In pursuit, his feet never stop, and that is an underappreciated quality for playing on the defensive side of the ball. The guy keeps his feet active as he searches for lanes to the ball-carrier, and it keeps him balanced and ready to accelerate when he spots one. Even taking on blockers, he drives his feet to get his opponent off balance so he can disengage and get back in pursuit. In coverage, his feet once again stay active, keeping him prepared to break on the throw.

This season, Johnson has been a dominant force, totaling up 117 tackles (13 for loss) and 6 sacks. It doesn’t matter what you ask him to do, Johnson is going to find a way to execute and perform at the highest level. He can cover sideline to sideline really well, can tackle and get after the run extremely quick, and has the ability to create turnovers as well- he has had multiple interceptions this season. Recently Johnson committed to Austin Peay, giving them a talented defensive addition in their 2024 class! Keep an eye on this guy the rest of this year, he has been destroying opposing offenses all year long and is just coming off of what may have been his best game yet last week!

Johnson made a ton of huge contributions to his team’s success as he was able to record 19 total tackles, an interception, and also an fumble recovery. All throughout the game Johnson had a massive impact- he has a great ability to make critical stops and disrupt opposing offenses in a ton of different ways, he can fly around the field to make tackles, can cover and make plays on the ball, and has the motor to play every snap with maximum effort. Keep an eye on him, Johnson just recently committed to Austin Peay and has been having a great season this fall!
