Drew has been establishing himself as one of the state’s best WRs since his freshman season. I have watched the tape a ton of times over the years, but this was one of my first chances to watch him in person. It was a day that verified the talents from his tape. A WR who is explosive and agile, and someone who can win snap to snap with his effortless route running. On Sunday Drew checked in at 5’11” 175 lbs with 10″ hands, ran a 4.8 40, 7.34 L-Drill, 4.41 shuttle, and jumped 31.3″ in the vert and 9’5″ twice in the broad. A big offseason is ahead for the explosive playmaker.
Drew is going to be firmly in the battle for best WR in the state when he returns in 2026. He is a dynamic weapon that has a variety of ways to win out wide and he demonstrated them last Friday night. First off, the junior is able to create separation in two ways. With pure speed and quickness off the line and also with his route running. The track speed allows him to give his offense a deep threat. The balance and body control and burst allow him to run crisp routes that leave DBs trying to catch back up. Drew also shines at the catch. The kid does great with his timing to high point and also does really well adjusting to the ball and putting himself in position to be able to hang on through contact. Big things coming for Drew. Check out his highlights.
As just a sophomore Drew was able to earn All-Region honors with his tape and numbers. That tape also helped Drew climb to #2 in our WR rankings for the Class of 2027. Drew is a nuanced route runner with the balance, acceleration, and sudden change of direction that is going to give DBs nightmares for the next two years. His ability to create space makes him a QB’s best friend and those 2024 numbers should be just the start of what he could produce this fall.
The defense had a nightmare of a time trying to keep a guy on the sophomore WR. Drew was constantly running free behind the defense in Week 7 and his QB was finding him on those occasions for big plays. It was great to see the young player have the awareness of the coverage and just settle into a spot or area and let his QB find him. Drew is making strides with his route running too. The sophomore is going in and out of breaks with speed and showing the balance needed to be able to come out of a route and quickly accelerate. It is great to see the sophomore already carving out a role on varsity. Big things ahead for him.
Drew has definitely taken that next step at the WR position and it has led to him getting run on the varsity team. The first takeaway is that Drew is looking bigger than the 5’11” 155 lbs we had him at during our last update. Even more noticeable as you watch through the highlights is the quickness to his game and the way he uses that quickness and burst to be a successful route runner. Olsson has excellent body control that lets his make those sharp breaks on a dime. Drew’s quickness allows him to do a lot of his damage in the short passing game. Check out his film. Great start to his sophomore campaign.
A freshman WR I have had my eyes on since the winter is Sussex Hamilton’s Drew Olson. The 5’9″ 155 lbs athlete ran 4.94 in the 40, broad jumped 8’5″, and ran 4.66 in the shuttle. A great base for him to build on, but it is safe to say that the 2027 plays faster on tape and during the live battles. Drew is a skilled WR who has the body control to run sudden routes. He finds and tracks the ball well. Drew knows when to come back to the ball and goes up and gets it. He plays the position like a natural. We could be in store for a breakout fall from Drew.
