Donavan has been one of the most difficult prospects for me to evaluate but not in a negative way. DJ may be the best running back I’ve ever covered but the issue is, he’s equally as elite at linebacker. He’ll never be that “full time” running back, but in his limited touches he produces. They may need 10+ touches Saturday.

Donavan has had an incredible second half of his season on the defensive side of the ball. Frederick rushes the edge on passing situations, can play as an overhang safety or in the middle of the defense. DJ sheds block extremely well, his physically will be key in championship game.

Donavan had another stat stuffing game on both sides of the ball, and it really started on special teams. The senior picked up fumble on kickoff and ran it in for his first of 3 scores on the night. DJ had another double-digit total tackle game and he’s quarterback hurries played a huge factor in the Rose’s passing game.

Donavan played one hell of a game last Friday night, but we will only highlight his accomplishments on the offensive side. He only ran the ball 8 times, with his first rushing TD being from around 20 yards out. The game was relatively close to start the second until Fredericks knock-out score from 79 yards out. Donavan has always displayed his ability to break tackles, but showed some serious Elite Speed

Donavan returned to the starting line-up on offense, and it paid off early and often. Dj scored his first touchdown from 2 yards out. Second touchdown was receiving from 9 yards out during the 2nd quarter. Fredericks last TD came early in the 3rd quarter, and it was a 28-yard run. Dj was equally as impressive on the defensive side as well. He actually played more outside LB than middle and was able to make plays setting the edge as well making plays on receivers.

One of the most impactful players during Friday night’s game was Frederick. 12 tackles and several hurries on the QB, the Senior held a previously explosive run attack to under 50 yards for the entire game. Donavan contributed to the offense with 66 yards on 7 carries, which is just around his usual this season. Dj has not rushed for more than 11 times a game all year but, is it worth it? The defense has not given up a touchdown in 10 quarters and Dj is one of the top reasons behind it. The LB is one of the best in the state and now him being fresher than ever, look out for a breakout second half of the season.

It often takes a little bit of time for bigger schools to find guys in the Fayetteville area, but Frederick is finally getting some of the recognition — and offers — he deserves. We’ve had Frederick in our top 50 for a while, but were able to bump him even further to his current place in the top 20. He’s a thumping, downhill linebacker who can rush the passer and has flashed coverage skills, giving him the total package.
