Our Director of Prep Redzone Next Al Pops, has already identified and confirmed his talent potential. Early projection is he will be competing for a starting or back up role for the 2023 season at Linebacker. He is seen as a rising Top ILB in the New England Region for the class of 2027. Plays very physical with obvious aggression. He is a secure tackler that can fill gaps quickly to meet RB at the hole. In speaking with his head coach, He stated” Derek will see early varsity action this fall.” He is easily destined for a solid breakout season.

Derek Austin is another defensive thumper on the football field. The Bay State linebacker stands around 6 feet tall and weighs just over 200 pounds. From what I have seen from Austin, it looks like he is becoming a part of the new wave of linebackers who is more an all-around athlete that can do everything. The most impressive thing to be about Derek is that he knows how to play the pass. Unlike some linebackers at this level, Derek does a great job of dropping into coverage and keeping his eyes on the quarterback. This allows him to hide in coverage and snag some interceptions in the process. Derek looks to be the field general when he is out under the lights. If he continues to play this way, he could end up being one of the linebacker names to surely know coming out of New England.

-One of those old school broad-necked, barrel-chested throwback Linebackers that makes Running Back’s regret meeting one-on-one in the hole
-Though he is just one big muscle, he shows pretty good agility and lateral movement. On the offensive side of the ball has proven to be a reliable option to receive passes out of the backfield or to run up the gut in short yardage situations
-At 6-foot and 210-pounds he looks varsity-ready right now. He’ll be off to one of Massachusetts’ premier high school program’s–Catholic Memorial. The Varsity squad there hasn’t lost a game since December of 2019
