It was a dominant Week 1 for the Wausau West DL and the tape matches the impressive stat line. Deondre showed versatility with success lining up from DE to NT against Superior. He proved that he could take on a double team and fight his way to split it and still get after the ball. Deondre also showed the quickness that impressed us at camps this summer as he beat one on one blocks Friday night with quick hands and feet. The senior also utilized leverage effectively to get into the backfield and disrupt plays over and over. Bournes finds a way to create disruption in the trenches at a high rate. Give the senior a look.

An athlete who has been on our radar since his freshman season, and also put together a great showing at the Big Man Camp is Wausau West’s DT

. The ’25 measured in at 5’10” 255 lbs with just over a 6′ wingspan. Every rep I saw from Deondre impressed me. Didn’t matter if it was in positional drills or 1 on 1 battles. It is clear that Bournes puts in the work. He has a strong frame that was always perfectly balanced through every rep. The ’25 did a great job of staying in a position of power and a position of leverage. He was explosive off the line, and demonstrated heavy hands to defeat blocks. Deondre earned an offer from Eau Claire following the event. He definitely provides an interior mismatch with his technique, quickness, and hand use.

I will second my colleague Oliver West Oliver West 5'11" | 185 lbs | DB Minneapolis Southwest | 2027 MN that Deondre was also one of my MVPs from the UWEC OL/DL MEGA Camp, as yet another prospect from Wausau that impressed me on Tuesday. Deondre had one of the best pad-levels I saw overall as despite not being the biggest DL prospect as far as measurables go, he won a ton of reps alone with just how well balanced he was winning the position battle. Deondre also showed off a well-versed football IQ and is certainly a DL prospect you go outside the measurables for.

. He doesn’t have elite size at 5’11” 245 lbs, but wow does he have fun tape to watch. Bournes consistently uses his hands, especially while pass rushing. He showed a swim move that got him wins in the trenches. His short area quickness is a major key to his game. Deondre is able to get skinny and slip through gaps and create disruption all over the backfield. The junior showed some stoutness against the run despite his size as well. I’m excited to see how he plays the rest of this year and continues to develop.

Deondre is an intriguing underclassman. He saw a lot of playing time on the interior of the West DL. He isn’t the biggest kid, yet. However, while he waits to grow into his full frame Deondre has developed his lateral agility. That agility allowed him to slip through gaps, and beat linemen after aligning himself so he only had to defeat half a man. That quickness allowed him to get penetration and make key stops. This is a name to know in the Class of 2025. The 5’11” 225 lbs DL shows potential to be a next level talent.
